The scenes that featured Kristen Wiig were the worst - so of course, that’s most of the movie.
I don’t like The Office, Community, or Parks & Recreation. I quite P&R after the first episode, then later read I should have stuck it out as it got better. Started to watch the first episode of season 2, and didn’t make it halfway through, which is a shame as I like Amy Poehler. These are show that are considered to be among the best comedies on TV, and I can’t enjoy them. It kinda pisses me off. I’d like more shows to enjoy.
I love Raising Hope. Greg Garcia has a way of taking the most ridiculous characters and situations and drawing humor out of them while (mostly) avoiding the cringe factor. He LIKES the characters, and his characters care about each other - they’re not just there to abuse for uncomfortable laughs.
France’s McDormand’s interview with William H. Macy in Fargo. She catches him a lie with every sentence and he just can’t adapt fast enough to weasel out of it. By the time we get to “He’s fleeing the interview! He’s fleeing the interview!” my stomach actually hurts.
Most of the scenes with Bob Ford as portrayed by Casey Affleck in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, which I’m pretty sure was intentional.
The American Idol segments when they focus on the bad singers. The judges really rip into them. I’m not saying that they should hand awards to them or anything, but the treatment these contestants get is terrible.
They want to be singers so badly, but they aren’t talented enough to make it in showbiz, and the show treats them like they deserve to be treated as jokes because they aren’t talented enough to excel at their dream career. Sometimes it seems as if the show leads them on to think they were talented enough to sing on TV, only to be lampooned and ripped to shreds by a national audience.
As someone who fears that I’m not good enough for my dream career, I think it crosses the line from competitive to cruel.
Huh, I don’t watch those shows but I always assumed they preselected horrible singers with such a thirst for fame that they didn’t care if they were getting harshed, they just want to be on TV. The Kartrashians have convinced the masses that talent is not necessarily for fame and fortune.
I watched it for years, and every time, I skipped the auditions and waited until the top 12 or whatever got to Hollywood. I had no interest in seeing people make a fool of themselves, or be made fun of.
The opening scene of “Kids,” especially with a guy you don’t know very well. Minutes and minutes of deep, slobbery, LOUD kissing. The sounds were obnoxious and it seemed to go on forever. And those were the only sounds.
I happen to love “Big Bang Theory” but the scenes where Leonard gets in front of crowds and talks about how his mother ruined his childhood are just too cringe worthy. I change the channel.
Yeah, I’m aware there are people who do just the opposite. Out of curiosity, do you like some or all of the other things in this thread that others have said they can’t watch?
I was just watching an old clip of Jonathan Winters, and was reminded that I find all improv humor uncomfortable. I think it’s like a vicarious fear of flop sweat – even if the comic pulls it off, the fear of failure makes me extremely uneasy.
Napolean Dynamite is this way for me from nearly start to finish. It did nothing but resurrect long-buried pain and trauma of being bullied and mocked as an awkward kid.
