Schegen visas

I am going to Europe next month. I will be attending a food fair in Italy and then I will go to Denmark for a week, returning to Italy to fly back home.

I was told by a friend that I cannot get my visa from the Danish consulate but from the Italian consulate because I will be entering Schengen-treaty territory in Italy and will expend the most time there. For various reasons I would prefer dealing with the Danish consulate. So, was my friend right? Isn’t it the same if I just got my visa from the Danish consulate regardless of where I will be be first in Europe?

Thanks in advance…

Never mind, the friendly people at the DK embassy just answered all my questions by email.

Thanks anyways. I wouldn’t mind if a mod closes this one.

In theory you need to get a visa for the first country you land in but maybe you can get away with getting a visa for another country if you explain it when you land like “well, I am on my way there but I came here first because I found a better deal”. I can tell you I know people who have done it and did not have problems but you never know. While European immigration officers are not half as bad as US ones, you could still run into the odd one who would give you a hard time.

  • you got me all curious ?

Oh, and I’m glad that my countrymen at the consulate were able to answer your questions in a friendly manner.

[hijack]What brings you to my fair home country ? [/hijack]

They are usually called “In-Transit Visas.”
