Got back from vacation, where I was in Vegas for a few days, then at my wife’s parents’ house for a few days, then flew home. My wife is driving back and will get here with our daughter and dog in a couple days.
I was not liking the Nevada heat and air conditioning because it was causing total havoc on my allergies and sinuses. I was still feeling like crap after being home for a while so out of an abundance of caution I did a Covid test.
Positive.
The test was a year expired, but I still feel like crap so I bet it was legit. Just to be sure, I ordered a new test and it will arrive in the morning. But I’m sure it’s accurate because I have a persistent cough and feel crummy.
Best of all, my daughter’s back to school on Tuesday, starting her new year the day after Labor Day. Or at least she is supposed to. I was also going to get groceries tomorrow to make sure we have food in the house again by the time my family gets back.
COVID is staging a major come back. Yeah, I know, the bone-heads say we are crying wolf. I say look at the science, but those doofuses don’t believe in science. I’m not sure they believe in math or reading either so at least they are consistent.
Old tests are far more likely to give a false negative than a false positive. The issue is that they break down over time. A strong positive is probably a positive.
I live in the swing state of North Carolina. Based on the endless ads, apparently the upcoming election features two of the worst persons in the country’s history, and it is extremely important to remind me of this approximately every five minutes.
Our road is getting repaved. No one asked me. Grinders & compactors up and down, down and around back up beeps and peeps in yellow vests. A lot of equipment. But they lie all the time. Our street is not first like they said we’re last and they need to dig it up more and grind and compact again. The frickinh entire house is bouncing from impact. They say it’ll be finally done this week.
The road will be wider and smoother. Cars will go faster.
We planned on doing some pontooning this weekend, and my gf suggested taking friends out. What could possibly go wrong? Heh.
Friday afternoon we took our neighbors out. They’re in their late seventies. He’s in good health, but his wife has dementia of some variety. She has good times and bad times.
I spent an hour or so preparing the boat, cooler, etc. My gf showed up with the neighbors and they boarded. Everything was fine as I maneuvered out of the slip and began heading down river.
Two minutes in our neighbor absolutely lost it. She wanted off the boat, and her husband’s attempts to calm her had no effect. I landed at the public docks and we were able to get our neighbors onto land. She calmed down and acted like nothing had happened. With my gf’s help I got the boat back into the slip. She took the neighbors home. I cleaned up, covered the boat, etc. So, 2 1/2 hours of work for a two minute cruise.
Fast forward to Saturday. We took friends out with their grandson. (Long story short, they’ve had custody of their six year old grandson for the past 6 months. They are in their seventies).
Once again I prepped the boat and cooler. Readied the grill for burgers and dogs. As we were about to head out, the skies darkened. My phone buzzed. Severe thunderstorm warning!!
We managed to move everything (except the boat) up to the marina gazebo. I made lunch and everyone ate well. It rained. Then it cleared up, then rained again. Rinse/repeat.
Two days of boating with two minutes of actual boating. Today my gf is volunteering at an agility trial that our dogs will participate in tomorrow. I’m heading to the marina to cover the boat, etc.
Oh I see we’ve been forced into the super spreader thread.
We used to get asked all the time if we want to sell. Markets slowed down a bit.
The local kingpin developer guy who flips houses, bought and bulldozed a little cottage. He built a McMansion but the floor plan sucks imo. Ground floor is all garage, stairs to next level is an open plan kitchen/living area with little windows It’s on a lake where is the fucking view. Oh go out the side door to the deck that faces a hill and turn left see a slice of water.
Another flight of stairs to the bedroom area with a largish sitting area with a “wet bar” that is just a sink and counter. Still no views from this enclosed area.
He had to drop his price by 75k so far. Dude it’s the biggest most expensive house on a block of little old houses that all capitalize on their view. What ya doing? Hope it drops another 200k
@Atamasama
I’ve been sick since I came home from Virginia almost 2 weeks ago. Very sick. Sore throat, sneezing, major congestion, cough, etc. I had to take a few days off work.
On day 4 I lost my sense of taste and smell. Finally called the doctor and they said covid was going around. So I assume that is what I had (have). I did not go get tested since by this time it was already 7 days of illness.
I was going to get my covid shot in advance of going to Ireland in a few weeks but it appears I now have to wait 3 months according to my doctor. I will be wearing masks to travel.
Taste and small are gradually returning. Never had that kind of full blown sensory shut down before and I was spooked.
@chela Here in rural western PA my street has been pounded open and tarred and rearranged since January 2024! Gas company tore it all up replacing pipes. Roads and sidewalks and grass were in disarray for months. So much dust and dirt. They finally finished the “remediation” phase a couple weeks ago (late August 2024).
I commissioned one pair of shoes to wear for the duration of this chaos. They are practically ruined on the bottom from all of the abuse.
The worst news is that the water company will be back next spring to dig up everything again to replace their pipes. Insane.
Yes I am thinking of moving but that is turning out to be a small nightmare.
As I posted in another thread, I have been getting oversized postcards from the Republican Party just about every other day telling me how Trump will be the Savior of America, and that if Harris is elected the economy will collapse, criminals will be allowed to run rampant through our streets, and cats will be mating with dogs.
If you mean the thread title, to “schlep” means to do something tedious or awkward (as in carrying something heavy), or be someone who does schleps (or generally a stupid person). And “timbre” is a unique quality of sound in music or a voice.
I was awkwardly trying to say “things that sound tedious and/or stupid” in a punning way.
