School's in. This year's trend amongst the female students...

Phew!

If you see a female at NC State wearing those ridiculous sunglasses, chances are she’s a sorority chick. I think it’s some kind of dress code.

I’ve only noticed the big-sequined “hobo bags” being carried by little girls and 'tweens. Are they supposed to be a big thing with young adults too?

Here are some. Though on the ones I see, the lenses seem to be much darker.

Well, you know how slow Cleveland can be. I honestly don’t recall seeing mobs of those sunglasses, but then I work indoors, so maybe I’ve just missed them…I need to get out more, I guess. Ah, but the giant-sequinned hobo bags…those are everywhere!

Holy crap, you’re right.

Who’s Nicole Richie? Perhaps I’m better off not knowing…

The huge sunglasses are a manifestation of the current crop of 20somethings’s obsession with nostalgia and retro-cool. See, for example, a shot of Diane Keaton in Annie Hall, wearing similar gigantic glasses.

Suffice to say that she’s similar enough to Paris* Hilton that you need not concern yourself.

*I find it interesting that she somehow got the name of a Trojan prince. Mayhaps Mr. Hilton wanted a son?

[showing my age]They remind me of the glasses Audrey Hepburn wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

snerk I wonder if she has a sister Hector Hilton?

You can see those sunglasses on several of the girls in Pink’s “Stupid Girls” video:

Emaciated daughter of Lionel Richie; Michael Jackson’s Godchild; former best friend of Paris Hilton (now bitter enemy of same); former drug addict; Socialite; Former star of The Simple Life; Author.

You could blame Paris and Nicole for wearing them, but you should probably blame this guy ( http://www.oliverpeoples.com/company_designer.html ) for making them. Oliver Peoples are behind most major design trends in eyewear these days.

No way. These big shades were all over NYC about 3-5 years ago. Long before Nicole picked it up. I had fun watching it appear in the Bay Area a year or two after I saw it in New York. I say “fun” because the scenesters here in San Francisco all claimed that the trend started here (or at least in California).

Sorry, you conforming, copycat, herd of hipness, you were late to the party on this one.

Otherwise known as Arse Antlers.

That’s exactly what I thought as I tried for the fifth decade to get that Audrey look. Just bought the big sunglasses yet again.

When I saw those sunglasses on Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I thought they were huge! She went on to wear even larger ones in other movies and became known for them. They become fashionable from time to time and new herds of ant women show up all over the world. I love it!

Tiffany & Co. opened here in Nashville this month just in time.

Porn Star Glasses have been in fashion with the 18-25 crowd for years here. I’m not complaining.

Puh-lease. Obviously, they are a nationwide tribute to the greatest matriarch in television history, Lucille Bluth. She also wears a pair in the opening credits.

<wings Twickster> You made me think of Nicole and then this really weird off-off-Broadway one-man (yes, man) show about Paris. Shame on you.

You don’t have the knee-length leggings and demin miniskirt trend where you are? With wide belt?
I think those sunglasses look dumb on practically everyone.

Whoa. Welcom to the 80s. I can’t tell if you guys are way ahead of the curve, or way behind it, though.

The 80s are back in a big way. A school shopping trip with my daughter found us amidst a sea of skinny stretch jeans, pointy flat shoes, and vests. Vests, people! The stores are full of Members Only jackets, folks. Prepare for the apocalypse.
