Yes, yes they are. Some of the stuff I actually like, but it’s getting extreme now. I went shopping for jeans the other day, and there were oh-so-many tapered pairs of jeans.
I think I must be getting old, because I think those are hideous. I’m not wearing anything that’s going to make my ass look 6 inches wider than it actually is.
Well, if the '80s are back… can I have a DeLorean, please?
Actually, I rather like the '80s look on women. It’s not nearly as skanky as some of the stuff I see them (female customers aged 14-25) wearing at work.
Even though I pay bugger all attention to fashion, my goal this year is to introduce Akubras as the discerning headwear of the discerning man about town this summer. I’ll let you know how it all goes.
I have been wearing large sunglasses for years. They’re definately getting back into vogue; I used to have the hardest time finding a pair I liked, but now it’s a cinch. I think the really huge ones are kind of weird looking, but bigger sunglasses block the sun better, and I think they look glamorous in a Breakfast at Tiffanys sort of way. I like to wear them with a headscarf. I get compliments all the time.
Several fashion magazines have pieces on how to wear leggings/wide belt/sweater combinations. The tapered jean has come back in a big way, too. Very sad. So far they’re not high-waisted, at least.
Yep,. the fashion preview for the fall was like a flashback to the early 80s:
jumpers, leggings (OK to wear under jumpers), plaid skirts and shirts (they showed red and black buffalo plaid which was instant flashback), skinny jeans, big saggy bags
I had the terrible thought that I will probably be alive when these come around once and maybe even two more times :smack:
I always think of those big sunglasses as “battered wife shades”. They remind me of the cliched '70s & 80’s Lindsay Wagner / Valerie Bertinelli Movies-of-the-Week where the abused spouse tries to hide her black eye behind oversize sunglasses.
So my reflexive thought on seeing girls with these is “who hit her? what’s she hiding?”.
I wear them and I love them. However, I don’t hold any false ideals about how they look on me. Maybe some people can pull them off, but I’m not one of them. They look positively goofy, but I don’t care. They block much more sun than smaller glasses, and I don’t have to squint like I used to. So go ahead, laugh at me and my fly-looking self. Now that I realize how much better it is to have sunglasses actually block sun, it’s either these or the wraparounds seniors wear.
I have been praying for the 80s to come back. Now I hope they hang around until I manage to get my daughter steered through junior high and high school. I always thought we looked cute in our big baggy pants and oversized shirts, and it would be so restful to send my daughter out of the house in clothes like that instead of the mini-ho mini-clothes that have been all the rage to date.
Come on, people. We need to keep the 80s around for at least 10 more years!
I’m also in Ohio - but our students aren’t back yet. Classes start Monday, so if the sun’s out, I’ll have to see if I see these floating around. Although, if there’s a dark corner of Ohio where new fashions don’t reach for months if not years, that’s where I live. I mean, within the last year I’ve seen several people with rattails. Please Og, don’t tell me THOSE are coming back.
