Sci-Fi Books Using Latest Science

I’m looking for a good sci-fi book recommendation for a story that incorporates the latest scientific discoveries, preferably with a focus on space and without murder and monsters.

TIA

For your own reading pleasure, or for a project? Also, do you mean science fiction, or sci-fi?

Crichton was always good for that sort of thing, except never in space… and usually with monsters…

He does have a final book coming out IIRC (fingers crossed)

This is for my own recreational reading.

I have to admit an initial eye-rolling to the distinction, which conjured up a memory of Jeanne Cooper insisting that The Young and the Restless was a daytime drama, not a soap opera.

I then did some googling and found an interesting video of a discussion panel on this subject, as well as several articles addressing the distinction (1) (2). I also discovered the term, “Speculative Fiction,” which seems to fit what I am looking to read. I feel like Helen Keller at the well.

I want to read stories that will immerse me in their plausibility while exciting me at their possibility. Throw in some recently-discovered scientific knowledge to add to the plausibility and you’ve got just what I want.
