Science Dopers: debunk this doomsday scenario, please...

http://armageddononline.tripod.com/science.htm

Yes, I know that the majority of the ‘facts’ on pages like this are bunk and unwarranted assumptions…but what specifically prevents some of these scenarios from happening? Articles like this one:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/sci/tech/523161.stm

Seem to support at least part of the doomsday scenario…

The Tripod site is dead. Was there anything on it more than the blackhole scenario BBC posits?

Here’s a link to Dr. Ozer’s original paper:

If it happens, blame David Brin. He wrote about the very same thing in Earth.

Gaah! Bandwitdh limits…well, the site itself is, as you might guess, a collection of different doomsday scenarios that supposedly could happen…this particular section doesn’t present any new factual information than the BBC article, but IIRC it says something to the effect that this is a case of scientists not knowing for sure that any of these experiments are really safe, and that the kind of energies being released in the supercolliders is on a level not seen since the Big Bang, or something like that.

Yep, and actually the site that Derleth posted is more comprehensive than the Tripod site anyway…let’s see here…aside from the ‘homemade black hole’ bit there is the question of ‘quantum vacuum collapse’ or something like that…
