Scooby Doo, Who Likes U?

Why do people like this crap. The laugh track and repudiative crap music… THE SAME STORY, OVER AND OVER!?

So many cult follows… with a movie. What’s the lure?

I know several people who are huge fans.

Of course, the oldest one is eight.

Um…repudiative?

I happen to like Scooby Doo. I think it’s better then a lot of the cartoons nowadays(is that a word?). I wouldn’t say that I follow it fanaticly, but if it’s a choice between that and Digimon, I always pick Scooby Doo. By the way, I say this as a babysitter, not a parent or child who has to watch it all the time. I also plan to see the movie.

Daphne’s hot.

I mean, for a cartoon.

I can remember loving this cartoon as a kid – even playing Scooby Doo (you be Shaggy, I’ll be Fred. Hand me that ascot).

Now, I find my nephew and niece (6 and 4 years old) riveted to it, and I find myself wondering about their mental stability. Or ability.

Eh, must be a kid thing.

I watched SD as a kid too, but can’t stand it now for more than half an episode or so. I’ve only ever known one person who did still like it as an adult, who claimed “Shaggy is such a stoner.” That’s what I think we’re missing here…the drugs.

In the defense of SD, which, come to think of it, I don’t like anymore, only the later seasons had that annoying ass laugh track.

On another note, the movie looks like it’s going to be BAD.

I hated it as a child, and still can’t understand why it’s still held in such reverance. Don’t even get me started on Scrappy-Doo.

Jack, I can hardly imagine a seven/eight year old you using the word “ascot” in conversation. But it’s oddly endearing, all the same.

I liked it when I was young, but it is a bit…well, drab, when you watch now. Same jokes, and all. Well, now I’ve been conditioned to the humorous stylings of “Simpsons”, “Futurama,” “Family Guy,” and all sorts of animated shows.

But spoofs of it are so funny. Like the whole “South Park” send up on Halloween. When you’ve seen the original, the spoofs look all the better. And I hate to admit this, but I’ll occasionally watch the new Cartoon Network movies about it- like Scooby Doo and the Witch’s Ghost. All right, admit it, who else has seen that one?

Well then, you folks are not going to like this news.

They are going to revive Scooby Doo for an all new series this fall.

New Scooby Doo

(“Repudiative”, is that a word?)
I’ll never understand the popularity. Even as a kid I never really liked it. But this staff report on the relationship between Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo is somewhat amusing. I especially like the bit about “Velma’s a lesbian/Shaggy’s a stoner/Fred and Daphne are getting it on”.

I saw that, I watch South Park ll the time

I like Scooby Doo, specially the episodes without the laughing track. I liked Scrappy Doo when I was a child, but now I don’t. I also like A pup named Scooby Doo. When I go back to my room after school, I tune the TV to Cartoon Network to see if they are airing the show.

I have not seen the last movies.

Scooby Doo was about as bad as anything Hanna-Barbera ever produced (and even their best was second rate). The criminal was always obvious from the first five minutes and there was nothing funny about that stupid dog.

Come come people.
This program was the last gasp of rational thinking on television in the 20th Century.
Scooby Doo was a revolutionary show that tried to buck against the supernatural BS that began to permeate North American society with nonsense shows such as IN Search of…

It was repetitive because it was designed to raise a whole generation of critical thinkers and skeptics.

Think about it. Everyone in an area runs in fear because of a ghost but Freddy (much like the Amazing Randi) says “There is more to this mystery than meets the eye gang!” (The gang reference was the creators’ way to promote the teamwork ethic which now permeates business society)
Instead of jumping to wild conclusions when a “ghost” appeared to disappear behind a wall, the gang tried to investigate how it was done.

Key words like clue were hammered into our heads to make us realize that we had to systematically investigate theories and examine the evidence before we came to any conclusion.

Let’s look at the characters.

FREDDY AND THELMA:
The rational fearless members of the crew. They are drawn into mystery situations not because they want a mystery but they want a solution to an irrational situation.
They investigate the evidence and always come to the correct conclusion, not because they are lucky or smart but because they knew how to examine the evidence and interpret it.

DAPHANE: She was the typical person on the verge of going either way in thought either by jumping to the wrong conclusion or rationalizing. She walked that fine line and was usually kidnapped by the “ghost” to prevent her from picking the right side.

SHAGGY AND SCOOBY: were representations of the superstitious believers of the paranormal. They were purposely made to look ridiculous as they ran from every shadow and jumped to the wrong conclusions on everything. Notice the loud annoying laugh track during only their scenes. Why? To reinforce the stupidity of their claims. Watch and listen closely next time. It is louder when they are frightened.
“ZOINKS!” ha hahah haha ha
“A G…G…G… GHOST!” HAH HA HA HA AHA

SHAGGY AND SCOOBY SCAMPER AWAY WITHOUT CLOSER EXAMINATION OF A MAN OBVIOUSLY WEARING A RUBBER MASK
HA HA HAH AHAHAHAHAHAH HA!

THE GHOSTS: Representations of our fears and superstitions. They are also a representation of the phoniness of some of these fears. They invariably turn out to be someone using a superstitious belief for… GET THIS… Profit!
Oh yes they all do it for money. The Biggest perpetrator was the SPACE Ghost trying to use both the paranormal and UFOlogy to get money.

The Show ran well for a while trying to educate the Youth of North America to not be afraid of what we don’t understand but attempt to rationalize it.
The tragedy is that over the years someone behind the scenes tried to sabotage the project. First by diluting the message by adding the annoying Scrappy Doo, then by the eighties the removed Freddy and Thelma and made the ghosts REAL. With no rationalization Kids were trained to believe in ghosts (This is also the same time the damaging NEW Ghostbusters came out) This would pave the way for the ultimate destroyer The X Files.

The final victory by these paranormal new Age snake oil salesman was these new Scooby Doo movies in which not only are the ghosts real by Freddy and Thelma are back not to show the power of rational though but are made to look like ridiculous closed minded nay sayers. Much they way many skeptics are demonized or ridiculed.

FREDDY:“Come on gang it has to be a guy in a suit,” (LAUGH TRACK)
Tries to pull off the mask but it’s not a mask it is real
FREDDY “HEY I think this is really a Ghost!!”
THELMA: But there are no such things as ghosts! (HUGE LAUGH TRACK)
SHAGGY: ZOINKS LETS RUN! (Applause)
We must not ridicule the original show but praise the bravery of this straw damn trying to hold back the avalanch of psudeo science and new Age thinking .

Would be in Kevin Smith’s “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Although the South Park parody with Korn was funny too- especially the over the top violence of the “ghost pirates”.

The early Scooby Doo’s with the goofy sixties songs and the tag-line of “I would of gotten away with it, if it weren’t for those meddling kids” were all good fun, especially compared to the absolute crap that was on otherwise. Of course once the evil “Scrappy Doo” appeared the show became pure crap on a stick.

-me

There were some cool episodes when they had celebrity guests, though. I remember one had Scooby and the gang meet the Addams Family. They drew the AF in the same style that Charles Addams did and got the actors from the TV series to supply the voices.

It’s a kids thing. I loved SD when I was a kid.

Kid’s today are looking at things like pokemon and a few years ago it was power rangers. Repetitive and poorly crap but very popular.

Kids have no taste.

Now Danger Mouse that’s another story

Erm…sorry to say, the Power Rangers are still alive and well. Had to baby-sit a four year old kid, and he talked about them.

I meant the music is repetitive… I could hum it right now.

DA… DA… DAAAAAA…
And it’s the same thing, over… and over… and over…
and over. And there are time when you don’t learn the motives of the bad guy until he or she has been IDed… how are the kids watching suposed to solve the mysery, WELL, other than finding the least obviest person. I swear, the themes aren’t reallt different. Just guest stars. You don’t end up learning anything more about the characters, I don’t recal Fred ever visiting his folks place and finding a mystery there… where his younger brother (GASP, we learn he has a bro), helps him and the gang find the bad guy.

I TURN ON SCOOBY, I KNOW WHAT I’M GUNNA SEE… POOP! SCOOBY SCAPS! ZOY-turds-NK! FRED’S-FART-FLEM! VELMA’S-VERMIN-PILE! DAPHANE’S-DUNG DECAY! SCOOBY POO! SHAGGY SHIT!
