Scooter wheels, and liability to skidding

Scooters, mopeds, call them what you will…

There’s two distinct varieties, one with small squat wheels about 12-15" diameter, and others with wheels somewhat larger but quite thin. My girlfriend will only consider buying the latter, claiming authorative advice that they’re less liable to skid. I’m sure the opposite is true…

The two possible types of skid are locking the brakes, or sliding while cornering. In both cases, I’m sure the smaller wider wheel gives a larger ‘footprint’, making a skid less likely. My GF claims it’s to do with the lower RPM of a larger wheel, and I can’t see how this affects it.

Any ideas?
