Scored on injured ice hockey goalie??

If an ice hockey goalie goes down in pain from a shot injuring his arm and is unable to move, does the delayed rebound shot count as a goal? After the first initial shot, the goalie was down for a good five minutes.

the goal would count unless the ref stopped play right after the first shot. Most likely the rebound goal would happen so fast the ref would not stop play that quickly.

Nevermind

the refs want to stop play as soon as they can in case of an injury. Especially to a goalie . But it sounds like in this case the rebound was so fast they were not able to blow the whistle fast enough.

In the NHL, they stop play if the goalie loses his mask even if he’s not injured. I assume they do the same in college. I don’t know about international rules.

It used to be in international hockey, if the puck touched the goalie’s mask the play was whistled dead. I can’t recall whether that is still the case.

I would like to thank everyone for their responses. This was a playoff game and unfortunately the winning goal so you can see how critical this play was. There was plenty of time for the goalie to respond to the rebound and when he didn’t, it was obvious he was injured. The play continued with the refs and others saying they didn’t see it. It was clear as day especially since there were no other players screening the view.

Does the goal count? Yes.

All players are to protect themselves from injury at all times. This would include proper equipment, technique, and behaviour.

Should the referee have blown the whistle?

Maybe… at most levels stoppage of play due to an injury to any player is at the discretion of the referee and/or the linesmen in some leagues).

There is no rule pertaining specifically to a goalie being injured during play, although there are some minor leagues which have a mandatory stoppage for any head shots.

From the IIHF:

This would seem to indicate that even if your goalie had been hit in the face and injured, play would continue and the goal would count.
