Now that’s the last thing I want to hear. I’m not interested in having Isiah coach, just be the damn Pres/GM. The Knicks problem is in talent, not coaching. They couldn’t win with Van Gundy, they can’t win with Cheney, they won’t win with Thomas on the sidelines either.
So what is the first move zeke makes?
Well, just thought I’d revive this thread and point out that Thomas has made a move that makes the Knicks contenders in the east again by bringing in Marbury. Of course, he sacrificed their future to do it by taking on yet more salary for more time, plus sacrificed a young 7 footer who people think might be the next Nowitzki plus draft picks. Then again, Marbury is a franchise player who is only 26 - so it’s not like he traded for a washed up power forward with bad knees.
However, apparently, he’s looking at trading Van Horn for Rasheed Wallace, and I suspect he might need to throw Frank Williams in there, too.
If he pulls that off, the Knicks automatically become one of the three best teams in the conference behind maybe only Indianapolis and Detroit.
So Knicks fans, like what you see so far?
I like what I’m seeing. Yes, he sacrificed the salary cap and some picks, but I heard a great comment about that “You clear your salary cap in order to get a guy like Marbury.” If the Knicks do better this year, the picks won’t be worth too much, either.
Marbury’s youth is a great asset, the need to keep a young potential PG like Frank Williams is lessened, so trading him is not such a big deal.
I don’t know if I want Rasheed Wallace, heard bad things about his attitude, but good things about his talent. Guess we’ll see if the changes result in more wins, but at least I’m interested now.
Actually, I just looked the two of them up, and Wallace’s stats don’t seem much better than Van Horn’s:
Wallace 17pts, 6.8reb, 2.8asst
Van Horn 17pts, 7.3reb, 1.7asst
Any reason we’d really want him over Van Horn?
Let’s start with the bad.
They are capped out until 2008 I believe, and they are now poised to do the usual Knick thing which is first round playoff exit and crappy lottery position because of making playoffs. I don’t know about Marbury’s attitude, he seems to be a bit of a poison pill.
Now the good.
If Marbury wants a chance to set himself straight, this is it.
The Knicks have a much needed superstar.
He is worth the money, and if they cleared cap it would be to sign a guy of this caliber.
I like what I’m seeing. Tonight should be a good game vs. Houston. VanGundy, Marbury, and Ewing in the Garden for the first time. (well they’ve been there before, but you know what I mean)
I’m not a Knick fan but I’m actually starting to get concerned about their inability to create team chemistry due to constant roster changes. What if the Knicks fail to make the playoffs? More trades? I hope they stick to the core and let them develop and something good will definitely come of it.
But games like today’s against the Rockets certainly aren’t gonna help
Man oh man that was an ugly game. Chemistry? They have Christian fundie Houston, thugbury, and they’re talking about getting Rasheed?
<shaking head>
They need to get Chaney out of there now.
Well, he’ll take more shots and shoot with a lower percentage. Um…
Seriously, though, Racheed is a lot tougher inside the paint than Van Horn and he has a ton more talent. Of course, he’s also completely insane which is why his stats are taking a bit of a dive.
But hey, whoever CTC is fine with him. (I do think they’ll be a better team with Rasheed than Van Horn).
Rasheed needs a new start anyway, he’s not serving much purpose at the moment with the emergence of big Zach, just a waste of his talent. Plus, Van Horn and Marbury? Pre-Jason Kidd Nets anyone? Not exactly a match made in heaven (although, sadly neither is the combination of Van Horn and the Trailblazers).
I always feel bad for Keith. The Knicks were probably the best place for him to be. But can you imagine going from the Marbury Nets and being miserable then getting Jason Kidd all of a sudden. Then being torn from Kidd and being shipped off to play with Iverson. Then going to New York and playing with some pretty good guys like Houston and Ward. Then having to play with Marbury again. Then being shipped to the freaking Jail Blazers?! Poor guy. Of course, he’s being well-compensated.
Van Horn needs to go to a team like Salt Lake, Denver or Cleveland in order to be really effective. Unselfish, young teams that play uptempo and are filled with non-trouble makers.
I wish Artest would freak out a bit more, maybe Indy would move him. I’d love to have his insane ass in blue and orange.
BTW “CTC” = collect the check.
No, it’s cut the check.
I stand corrected, thanks.
He’s from the Derrick Coleman school of attitude.
