It only took 23 years for me to give up on you, Knicks

Marbury and Isiaha can lick each other’s crusty assholes.

You know what would get me watching the Knicks again? If those two clowns called each other out. Pistols at dawn. And then they kill each other and, by some slow and painful miracle, manage to kill Dolan too.

Umm…

Does one need to be American for this? Carstairs bowled Simpkins caught Fotheringham.

No, no need to be American. But it helps to know a little about the NBA.

It is truly amazing how mismanaged that team is. Paying so much money for players, and getting so few results. Hiring all time great coaches and firing them after one year, as if they’ve forgotten how to run a basketball team. Now, sexual harassment, pickup truck sex with an intern (who got a nice promotion just before she testified, natch) and veiled threats from a star player against his coach in retaliation for being benched.

Makes me wish for the days where they were merely underachieving.

How is this a surprise? Isiah Thomas, in spite of his carefully cultivated and managed image, is an utter dirtbag. He destroyed the NBA’s feeder league, the CBA, he steps in it fairly often when you give him the chance to talk, and he does stuff on the side that is equally dirty but is by and large ignored because he’s Isiah Thomas and his reputation precedes him. It’s only now that he’s really being called out, only 30 years after he first entered the public spotlight.

Marbury, on the other hand, has been nothing but cancer from day one. The only one worse than him in the last 20 years in the NBA has been Latrell (Attack my coach and claim I can’t feed my family on $7 million a year) Sprewell. It’s a pair of egomaniacs duking it out in egomaniac heaven (New York City).

Then again, maybe they should keep at it. It distracts from how genuinely bad the Knicks are and have been for the last decade or so.

I don’t care how bad the Knicks are. Wait, scratch that-- I do care how bad they are. I used to watch and cry about how much the Knicks suck and what could be done to fix them and all that hand-wringing that gets done when your team sucks. But I was never a fair-weather fan. I watched and rooted right through all the suckage.

But this isn’t about how bad the team plays. It’s not bad coaching or clueless management. This is about Ugly with a capital Ug. Sleazeball coach, criminal management, cheating refs and players who won’t play. And to top it all off, it’s MY team. The Knicks as an organization is rotten from the top down.

This might help.

Some backstory.

You said it!

To me, the funniest part of the whole harassment lawsuit was that folks thought that Isiah should get punished by Dolan. Dolan was found to be personally liable to the tune of $3 million in that mess, from what moral high ground could he issue a proclamation of someone else’s wrongdoing?

God, I’m old. I can remember when the Nicks were a first class organization, and Isaiah Thomas, the point guard, was a poster boy for wholesomeness in sports.

Do what I’ve been doing for the past three years every time the word “Knicks” comes across the airwaves: Just travel back to Larry Johnson making that four-point shot over the Pacers in the playoffs six or seven years ago. If you do it enough, you can pretend it was a replay from last night.

ETA: Wow…you do a YouTube search of “Larry Johnson”, and guess what the first hit is? Here you go…just watch this over and over and over until the pain goes away.

Are you whooshin’ me? Are ya? Huh? Cuz us Brooklynites don’t take kindly to bein’ whooshed, ya know. Makes us all plotz in our labanzas and we gotta leave the stoop and drink an egg cream to calm ourselves.

No whoosh. It was the mid 80s, I guess, around the time the league expanded with the Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat. The Knicks had just begun the Patrick Ewing era. Rick Pitino, Stu Jackson, and of course Pat Riley were classy coaches. It was just unfortunate for them that that era coincided with the Michael Jordan era. Meanwhile, in Detroit, a soft-spoken, ever-smiling young point guard was a media darling for his thoughtful, eloquent interviews. And yes, I’m talking about Isaiah Thomas.

Ah, so you DO know Isiah didn’t play for the Nicks. Still, the Pistons weren’t known as nice guys. They were the bad boys of basketball back then.

My favorite Knick memory is John Starks posterizing Michael Jordan and Horace Grant during the conference championship-- '93 or 94.

Ya know, even remembering the Knick’s total collapse to Indiana when Reggie Miller humiliated us is far less painful than what’s going on at Madison Square Garden right now.

I gave up on the Knicks about 4 years ago. I could not stand how the Dolans do business. Knicks, Rangers and especially Cablevision. They are probably the worst owners in sports. I gave up on hockey completely. I occasionally watch a Nets game, especially after Football season. Thomas and Marbury are just two more horrible things about the Knicks and that ownership group.

Jim

Boy, weren’t they though! But not Isaiah. He was sweet.

Funny era. Isaiah was the choirboy and John Stockton was the all-American nerd-boy, and yet, if you polled the players, you’d find that they were considered the dirtiest guards in the league.

It’s actually been a meh league ever since the end of Magic v Bird.

And that was pretty meh once Bernard wasn’t involved any more.

I kinda liked it when it was MJ and Scottie + whomever else against the Knicks.

Liberal…I’m guessing you’re not from Chicago…Isaiah was always known as a dirty, nasty player. And he’s local (Westinghouse, I think)!

And** Bigrrl**…Starks got one poster shot…how many times did MJ posterize the entire team? I did like Ewing, though…talented, but no supporting cast.
