Scott Pelley ousted as anchor at "CBS Evening News," reassigned to "60 Minutes"

Scott Pelley, who has sat behind the anchor desk at the CBS Evening News since 2011, was removed from that post on Tuesday. Pelley’s office was being cleaned out as he was away on assignment for CBS’s newsmagazine show 60 Minutes. He will be assigned to 60 Minutes permanently, beginning immediately. A permanent replacement for Pelley has not yet been announced. His ouster has been described as “a long time coming.”

Yes, I know I messed up the thread title. I have asked a mod to fix it.

Fixed title.

I see by the article that his ratings have dropped, but I found his program the best of the evening news shows. More serious and more focused on news. Well, up to the first commercial, at least. After that it’s health and fluff, but they all are.

I’m seriously bummed. I’ve had a huge crush on Scott Pelley for forever. Plus I think he is a great neutral newscaster ( although he’s had trouble keeping a straight face during some of the Trump coverage).

He didn’t do a lot of editorializing but I love this piece.

Ill really miss Scott. I guess I might have to start watching 60 Minutes

Thank you, Chronos.

Pelley was my favorite anchor of the Big Three, the others being Lester Holt at NBC and David Muir at ABC. I thought he was very professional, and a welcome change from Dan Rather and Katie Couric.

Why was he ousted? Particularly in such a backhanded way? It sounds like someone high up really didn’t like him.

Ratings. That’s all that matters.

They don’t.
