Scottish Wedding, maybe

Some shameless behavior for a newbie: Annoucing my engagement!

My boyfriend proposed to me this past Sunday. While we are still trying to figure out the details, one thing my beloved wants to do is wear his kilt for the wedding. (We met because of this article of clothing, so I have no problem with it.)

Anyone out there know about Scottish wedding traditions, clothing, etc.?

I’m a clueless American so anything helps.

Thanking you all in advance,
Mouse Maven

Well, I’m from Scotland originally, but have grown up in Canada. Any Scottish/Canadian weddings I’ve been to are pretty much the same as any other wedding, apart from the fact that you really should be “piped” into and out of the church.

My dad plays the pipes, so he’s been the designated piper at my wedding, along with siblings, friends, cousins etc. Apart from that it’s business as usual.

Lang may your lum reek!

Congratulations, and welcome to the SDMB!

Sorry I can’t help with the actual question in the OP…

This recent thread has some useful information. And congratulations! (And how did you meet because of a kilt?!)

Congrats and welcome aboard.
Please explain more about the Kilt being the reason for meeting.

Jim

I met my boyfriend - :smack: fiance - on a single’s dating site. His profile had a picture of him in the kilt. I sent him an email saying that I’m scottish on my mother’s side (I am, really) and asked what clan tartan he was wearing.

From emails and phone conversations, we met in person and after a year together he proposed.

If his profile didn’t have the kilt picture, I may not have contacted him, therefore the kilt is why we met.

Thanks for the congratulations, its all still sinking in. Its dawning on me that we have a lot of work to do

Mouse_Maven: Cool Story.
