The revival of this thread is sorta freaky. I thought about that kid and did a google search a few days ago. When I read the thread I saw ‘Quintas’ posted on it 8 years ago. Then I realized that was me 8 years ago. Twice i’ve thought of Dusty Strode and this thread materializes.
The more I thought about & tried to make distinctions, I thought “Well, not all CI’s believe that & some SF’s do” so sometimes, it’s tough, but believe me if you meet a hardcore CI, you’ll wish you had a nice SF to rescue you!
Generally, I find that it’s more fun if I can convince them that I am the Anti Christ. I’ve only managed this a couple of times, though.
How is this for resurrecting an old post?!
I wouldn’t say the Strodes live a “quiet, normal life”, but they aren’t really newsworthy anymore either. They all live in the surrounding area of Marion, NC. I dated the youngest son, Matthew, a long time ago and learned quite a bit about them. They all seemed to have parted ways, though, mostly because of the parents intensity. When I knew Matt and Pepper, the youngest, they seemed like almost normal kids, with weird ideas in their heads, but knew it was because of their father. They were constantly battling the brainwash.
Ryann (Duffey) Strode is married to Kim, and the last I knew, doesn’t keep much in contact with his family. He did some inappropriate things as a child, and the siblings hadn’t gotten over it. He was working as a manager at a fast food joint the last I saw him. Both Kim and Duffey are easily found on Facebook.
Pepper Ann Strode did indeed try her hand at boxing, but gave it up and had little contact with her parents. I specifically remember a trip to Walmart with her when she was around 23 or so, when her father was preaching on the back of his truck, and called her a whore for wearing makeup. He also damned her to hell. Not sure if they mended that relationship or not. But she was as sweet and sincere as they come.
Matthew Eric Strode seemed to be the favorite. He has been trying his whole life to break into boxing, and his father seemed to put all his eggs in that basket. His father even built him a professional gym, complete with a boxing ring, in their yard when he was a teenager. He goes by “Mayhem” now, when he fights. The last I saw him, he looked much frailer, maybe drugs? He has one daughter and one stepson now that he is married to a girl named Emileigh. The last I heard, they were newly married but separating already. Emileigh is on Facebook, but not Matthew.
This is the kind of family who does not talk much to each other and will speak ill of eachother often, but if they hear someone else doing it, they will rally together.
As far as I know, they do not go to any church, because the father has such strong views. The kids quit preaching long before they were adults, but the father kept it up for a while. I haven’t heard of him or seen him in a long time.
Sally Jesse did a follow up story on them back in 2000 or so, and they made it all look like sunshine and rainbows. It was far from it, but things are better than they were.

The infamous Street Preacher David Strode is my father! I am neither Duffy, Pepper or Matthew but they are my half-siblings. I will keep my name out of things but I thought I would add some hypocracy to Preacher Strode’s career of bible thumping and weekend truck-bed sermons. This man has a bunch of kids. He has two or three kids from his 1st marriage, me from a relationship that he didn’t want to stick around for and the three children he had with Robin. I don’t think many people know that he couldn’t raise me because he got a 15 year old preacher’s daughter pregnant (Robin with Duffy) and had to marry her or face the consequences. He’s such a good guy and is a fine example of man, father and human being (sarcasm). He is the perfect sort of person who should be shouting at people that they are sinners, whores and going to hell to burn for all eternity. My mother said he wasn’t even a religious man when they were together. I guess that is where their whole ‘being saved’ excuse comes in when asked to explain their Duffy being conceived out of wedlock. People aren’t saved. They are who they are and make the choice to do things the right way or not. He decided to do things the right way with regard to one mistake (Duffy) and chose to do things the wrong way with another mistake (me). I am fine by the way. I was raised by a wonderful mother and a very accepting step-father. I am who I am because this idiot was not in my life. He did me a favor. I am sure I have some issues because I don’t know my real father but I get along in life just fine. I have no regrets … and trust me, when I found out who he was and how he had become a celebrity for encouraging his children to get expelled, screaming at people on the streets of Pennsylvania & N. Carolina and speaking racial slurs in between his bible quotations on sensationalist talk shows, I wanted to stay as far away from this wacky dude as possible. See this man started all this preaching crap when he was in Chambersburg, PA. He would preach there and in Gettysburg and all over the area. His kids started preaching there as well and the problem with the school preachings and subsequent school suspensions started in Chambersburg as well. He was pretty much told to leave the city and never return. So I don’t buy the whole notion that he relocated in NC because they followed their favorite preacher there. That might be a little true but a move had to be made because they were thrown out of the friggin city. Every once in a while I search his name and see what comes up. Today it was this thread. I love the internet. I have learned who my sperm donor father is, who my half-siblings are and even what my real father looks like through videos I have found while searching the web. Years ago, I entertained the idea of writing Oprah or Springer and seeing if I could get a copy of the video just to appease my own teenage curiosity; but I never did. I figured it was better to leave bible thumping dogs lie. I did see a snippet from a taping of The Morton Downy Show when my dear ole daddy was on there. I found it interesting to see myself in his face … to see our common facial features … but then he opened his mouth and I knew I was nothing like this man … and was very glad of it. I think it interestingly karmic and fitting that he doesn’t have a relationship with Duffy, Pepper and Matthew anymore because he doesn’t have relationship with any of his 7 kids (who knows how many more he has). It sounds like a sickness he has and I do hope when he faced with his own mortality he does indeed repents for his sinning ways. Not for fathering children out of wedlock, not for listening to rock & roll and not even for hating a person and thinking them not to be one of God’s children simply because they have a different colored skin … I hope he asks for forgiveness for not being a good father … for not loving, cherishing and nurturing the greatest gifts God can give a man … his children. He somehow thinks he can change the world by screaming the bible’s message to people who are just trying to live their lives. Through his madness he has negatively impacted the very lives he created. He changed our world (the children of David Strode) he changed our worlds in a really harsh way. He certainly has a perverse way of spreading the word of God. He is no better than me. He has no better relationship with God than I do. I do know one thing though, I feel bad for my half-brothers and sister. I wish them well and I wish them happiness now that they are living their own (hopefully normal) lives. I wish David Strode nothing. Let him reap what he has sewed. I believe in Karma. I believe you get back in life what you give. He did teach me one thing; how not to be a good Dad. I intend to be everything he wasn’t for me.

Shakespeare said it best: “Methinks he doth protest too much”. There’s got to be a mountain of guilt under the surface for your father and Fred Phelps and their ilk to spew such hate. If they’d get professional help instead of acting out on their self-loathing, they’d save the world some grief.
Doesn’t bother me. We got our use from this thread, Spawn may as well too. I wish him well.

Whew! Thank you, draddard, for coming in with this. Can’t say I’m terribly surprised about David. I am happy that your Mom & step-Dad gave you a good life. So do you have any contact with Duffy & Pepper (the only ones who were in the press way back then) & what are they doing now? Do they have any faith or church involvement whatsoever? I do know they were involved in boxing for a while & Pepper was the one actually making a name for herself in the field. But after that, the trail goes cold again.
