Screw Greg Abbott {Texas Governor}

How much money are we talking about throwing at these lazy good-for-nothings?

The COVID-19 pandemic changed 69-year-old Longview resident Gary Rogers’ life in one unexpected way. As a SNAP recipient, the amount he received on his Lone Star card to buy groceries rose from a paltry $16 a month to $232, as part of a federal stimulus package.

But after almost three years, Rogers is one of 3.7 million Texans who will lose their pandemic-related relief in March. Going forward, Rogers will receive just $23 a month.

Mary Majar’s 91-year-old mother Amalia Rodriguez has been a SNAP recipient for almost a decade. Before the pandemic, Rodriguez received $39 a month for groceries. During the pandemic, that amount rose to about $200 monthly. But according to Rodriguez’s daughter, the Odessa woman now receives less than ever, $26 a month. Majar suspects her mother’s Social Security benefits — which are counted as part of the income for a household and, if increased, may decrease a SNAP recipient’s eligibility — are to blame for the decrease.

Well, that 69-year old guy is obviously a slacker. He was probably spending that extra money on beer. As for the 91-year old? She’ll be dead soon, so why waste money on her, amirite?

In a state with a $32.7 BILLION surplus. :

Screw Greg Abbott and every Texas Republican legislator!!

Now you’re thinking like a Republican! :+1:

I just can’t even anymore…

The part I don’t get is that they could relatively easily invest that money, with some stipulations that some proportions of the proceeds go back in to grow the fund, and the rest are used for some state government purpose. It could be an endowment to pay for park maintenance, it could be a fund to pay for special needs education, or any number of other things that the state citizens need.

Seems like a fiscally sensible thing- you invest the money, then use the proceeds, thereby freeing something up from being funded by tax money.

He’s whining about the jury finding someone guilty for firing at someone for open-carrying a rifle in a state where that’s legal and he says his stance is because of the “stand your ground” law in Texas? Wow. That’s some next level cognitive dissonance right there. We now know that it’s not the law, but how it’s used, that is of prime import to him. Here is the Wikipedia entry on the Murder of Garrett Foster.

p.s. IMHO, it’s a miracle these two dueling legalities (open carry and stand your ground) haven’t clashed before this.

Well, they have finally figured out that they need to permanently uphold two contradictory principles, so there will always be an excuse for the black guy getting killed and the white guy getting pardoned. Any other outcome under any circumstances would clearly be a miscarriage of justice.

Yeah, that’s what I was referring to when I alluded to his weaponization of the law. No doubt, justice is pronounced in his mind as “just us” (you know, white folk).

Shades of the Last Airbender.

Five were killed in Cleveland, Texas, on Friday in apparent retaliation for being asked to stop shooting. Abbot has essentially declared that none of this really matters because the suspect and victims are all here illegally.

Abbott is scum personified. Had the victims been Aryan you would have seen a much different tone in his response. I hope the bearings in his wheelchair burn out.

That is also his way to make this the fault the feds whi did not stop/deport all these people before it got to this…

…wait a moment there, Greggy boy, if Oropeza was here “illegally”, how come there are reports of prior interventions between him and the Law that did not get him taken in??

Deep State interference, duh.

He’s such a spineless, sniveling weasel. In light of the pushback he’s gotten and the fact that he’s demonstrably wrong, his office put out a statement that he had been told by “federal officials” that all the victims were in the country illegally and that “any loss of life is a tragedy.”

Contrast this with the Republican Sheriff of San Jacinto County: “ My heart is with this 8-year-old little boy. I don’t care if he was here legally. I don’t care if he was here illegally. He was in my county. Five people died in my county, and that is where my heart is — in my county, protecting my people to the best of our ability.”

"On top of that, the governor is clearly being choosy with the people he elects to malign. His own attorney general, Ken Paxton, has been under criminal indictment for several years now on fraud allegations, and he’s the subject of a federal corruption probe as well.
But Abbott has never once referred to his AG as a “fraud suspect.”

At least one of the victims had a green card, so that is more evidence that Abbot is lying scum.

The Texas Senate on Tuesday passed legislation to allow Gov. Greg Abbott precedent-setting power to overturn elections in Harris County, in order to punish local officials for running out of ballot paper at some polling sites last year.

The legislation, which passed the Senate 19-12, would give Abbott’s appointed secretary of state the authority to order an entirely new election in Harris County if the county ever again runs out of paper at 2 percent or more of its polling sites for over an hour.

“I would disagree about overturning — you’re calling a new election so voters get to vote again,” [Sen. Mayes] Middleton [R-Galveston] said. “You get the opportunity to vote again. This is very different from the way you are describing it.”

Under current laws, the only way to get a new election in Texas is by turning to the courts. After the November election, 22 Harris County Republican candidates filed lawsuits challenging the election results. One case has already been tossed; the others are still pending.

…The cost of that new election would also be the responsibility of taxpayers in Harris County, which would cost millions of dollars.

Harris (Houston) is the most populous of the state’s 254 counties.

If you’re wondering…

I helped! This next round we can try to get Cruz out…

A day after Chicago’s mayor asked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to stop sending busloads of migrants to her city, the Republican has refused in a strongly worded letter saying it’s President Joe Biden’s fault he has to keep doing it.

“Until Biden secures the border to stop the inflow of mass migration, Texas will continue this necessary program,” Abbott said in the letter to Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Since April 2022, Abbott has bused more than 16,000 migrants to northern cities where Democrats are mayors.

Joe made me do it!

I live in Harris County. There are enough potential democratic voters in this county to turn the whole state of Texas blue.

The population of Harris County is nearly 5 million.

From ChatGPT:

According to the 2020 United States Census, the total population of the five principal Texas urban counties is as follows:

Bexar County: 2,051,132 (San Antonio)
Harris County: 4,738,253 (Houston)
Travis County: 1,334,512 (Austin)
Dallas County: 2,639,944
Tarrant County: 2,122,810 (Ft. Worth)

Therefore, the total population of these five counties combined is approximately 13,886,651 people.

As of the 2020 United States Census, the total population of Texas non-urban counties (excluding Bexar, Harris, Travis, Dallas, and Tarrant counties) was approximately 10,780,027 people.

The more Republicans can shut down voting in Texas cities, the more likely they are to keep their chokehold on the gummint.
