Screw Greg Abbott {Texas Governor}

Vehicle is separate from the liquid assets qualification.

I’m still trying to figure out how you see the vehicle as being subsidized by the taxpayer. Care to explain it, without the use of any emotional language, and support your points with creditable sources?

I don’t speak for @bump, but I think the idea is that by giving someone food (or something that they can exchange for food) it frees up money in that person’s budget to spend on things other than food.

Other government policies are sometimes referred to as indirect subsidies, like the mortgage interest deduction on federal income taxes, or building stadiums for sports teams.

But that argument doesn’t make a lot of sense, since they already look at how much money you take home. They know how much money you make. They don’t need to look into the car unless you own it.

And even if you do own it outright and can sell it, that’s a one time thing. Same with bank account money. That frustrated me: because I was trying to save back some money we had left over, we got less per month. They treat assets like they’re ongoing, rather than something you can use one time.

I was recently laid off from my tech job, so my take home pay is 0. However, I have enough money saved and invested to survive on for several years. There are lots of people who need food stamps more than I do.

I don’t know exactly how I’d write the rules to qualify for food assistance, but I can see the case for evaluating assets as well as income.

Ironically, my car is an 8-year-old Honda, so it’s probably under the limit for Texas.

Some people are so invested in being outraged if someone gets something don’t deserve, they are willing to take it away from thousands that do.

and will spend millions to enforce it.

What makes you think they don’t already?

I don’t think that.

What it Offers

SNAP can’t be used to:

  • Buy tobacco.
  • Buy alcoholic drinks.
  • Buy things you can’t eat or drink.
  • Pay for food bills you owe.

Who is it for?

  • People in eligible low-income households.
  • Most adults ages 18 to 49 with no children in their home can get SNAP for only three months in a three-year period. The benefit period might be longer if the person works at least 20 hours a week or is in a job or training program. Some adults might not have to work to get benefits, such as those who have a disability or are pregnant.
  • Households in which all members are either older adults (age 60 and older) or people with disabilities are eligible to participate in the Texas Simplified Application Project (TSAP), which makes the SNAP application process easier and provides three years of benefits at a time instead of six months.

My bold. THREE MONTHS in a three-year period WITH a work requirement. People seem to think that Food Stamps are some kind of indefinite free ride for people who just don’t feel like working.

This page doesn’t address assets, but it does clarify what the monthly cash value of the foods stamps is according to family size. We’re not talking about lots of money here. (I don’t know how to make a table…)

Maximum Monthly SNAP Amount

Most people ages 16 to 59 must follow work rules to get SNAP benefits. Work rules mean a person must look for a job or be in an approved work program. If the person has a job, they can’t quit without a good reason.

|Family size|Monthly SNAP amount|
|1|$281|
|2|$516|
|3|$740|
|4|$939|
|5|$1,116|

The way conservatives think social safety nets should function,

Ignore the ladders.

Every time I see the title I think: ‘Not even with someone else’s dick’. Which is really funny since I don’t even have a dick of my own!

It’s good to think someone else thinks something like me, lol!

Glad to help!

If you run your affairs in a way that means you might need public assistance, you’ve obviously been irresponsible and not deserving of such assistance. On the other hand, if you don’t need that assistance, you’ve obviously been responsible and we are more than happy to help you out with whatever assistance you may need.

“That’s some catch, that Catch-22.”
“It’s the best there is.”

I got a cactus you can borrow.

Now there’s a thought…

Greg Abbott needs an adviser to explain satire to him.

Probably the most damaging thing about it for Abbott is that he didn’t realize there’s no city named “Hambriston” in Texas.
