screw the NCAA

ESPN just reported that the NCAA will begin to cancel games in South Carolina unless they take down that ‘symbol of hate’ confederate flag.
Let me state for the record that I’m not from, nor have I ever been to South Carolina (and will probably never go). 6 months ago, I was blissfully unaware that they flew this flag on their government buildings. Now I’m pissed off. Not that they use this flag, but that everyone’s squawking about it. People are marching about it. And they’re not Carolinians.
‘Symbol of hate’, my ass. Symbols mean different things to different people. We think the stars and stripes symbolize freedom. There are lot of people in other countries who think it symbolizes something else and burn it while they burn the President in effigy.(sp?) Would we let them tell us what to do with our flag?
Now, here comes the NCAA. All of a sudden offended by this flag, like it hadn’t been flying there for 50 fucking years.
What, they just now noticed? Or they just noticed that it’s popular to bag on South Carolina. Or feels that they have to to save face. So they turn to extortion.
So they are going to punish students and fans of S.C. schools until the state legislature caves in. IMO, it’s none of your damn business unless you live in South Carolina.
If the NCAA wants to make a difference, it could start by kicking out athletes who beat their girlfriends, cheat on tests, bully other students, commit date-rapes and other crimes, can’t pass a 6th grade math test and other heinous acts that currently rate no more than a 3 game suspension.

I get preachy when I’ve been up too long. I should get some sleep.
