Script Blocker, adblocker - the difference

I use Firefox and I used to have no problem with those annoying pop-up ads, but since getting the latest version of FF I am plagued by these things. I’ve tried Adblocker, super adblocker, Ad annihilator. While it seems to have helped a help page said to go with ‘script blocker’. I don’t know if that a generic term or a specific product. I’m not a whiz-bang on computers so I don’t have a clue as to the difference between script blocker vs. adblock software. Please help me out. What would you recommend? I just want things like they were in the good 'ole days.

You probably have some malware on your computer that is causing these popups, and they’re not something that can be stopped by a script blocker.

A script blocker is an add-on to your browser and responds to javascript commands on web pages when you visit them, and disallows them. The popups you’re experiencing are probably not coming from javascript on a web page, instead they are coming from malicious software on your computer that has nothing to do with what web pages you visit.

You need to clean out the bad programs from your computer, which requires real standalone software (not just something that enhances your browser.) Get yourself spybot and Ad-Aware (the free version) and run them. Make sure you get the updates before you run them - don’t assume they come updated.

Try NoScript. It won’t let a website run scripts unless you give it permission. An ad blocker blocks content, while the script blocker stops a lot of bad behavior. I run both it and AdBlockPlus.

Do as Zipper suggest and run some malware and antivirus software. But do also install a script blocker, since scripts are a source of malware.

What **ZipperJJ **said.

And as for the addons… AdBlockPlusand NoScript.
