Scroll Fans?

Does anyone know what a scroll fan is? (Must refer to the impellor). Or, the term “scroll volume control”? For the latter, I WAG is has to do with using some form of screw-type, or nautilus-type gear or shape for air flow control?

Hard to describe, but do a search for scroll type superchargers and you should see a pic of a scroll fan more-or-less. Lemme check…here is one pic
