Psst, Shayna…
It would appear that Martin Eisenstadt May not even exist!

Well I can hardly be faulted for that. My point still stands, DrDeth was utterly out of line to call me on putting a freaking quote inside quote tags, which has been standard protocol on these boards for years.
If he has a problem with that, he needs to take it up with the Administrators, not me.
This is the kind of nattering nitpicking nincompoopery that makes this place so damn frustrating at times. Who? The? Fuck? Cares? If? Its? Not? 100%? Correct? Nobody, and I mean, nobody is going to fucking die because of this. It can’t even be argued that this is somehow fighting ignorance, because, quite clearly, its pretty Og damned obvious that the person being quoted is not a Doper. And, frankly, if someone is of the plutonium-grade level of ignorance that they would somehow think that someone quoting, say, the President, in such a manner means that the President posts here, no level of work on our part is going to help them become intelligent.
As I’ve said before, even if she had done that, it would show that she was at least willing to recognize that there’s gaps in her knowledge and work to correct this. That she refuses to do so, shows a disturbing lack of curiosity on her part. One of the reasons why America has succeeded through dark times is a willingness to toss aside ideology when it was clear that reality contradicted it.
And I did it too! Ha!
Anyway, can we be sure that YOU are not really Martin Eisenstadt? Hmmmm??? Can you prove you are not him?
I don’t think it’s as implausible as you might suspect. I lived for a couple of years in Liberia, and when I’ve told people I once lived in Africa, I’ve encountered a shocking number of people who think Africa is a country, and some of these are people with college degrees and professional careers. Don’t understimate American incuriosity and ignorance about geography. It can be quite stunning.
Just in case anyone is wondering, Shayna is correct here. It’s fine to use quote tags to quote off-board people, especially when they are clearly identified as such.
Shayna seems to be under the idea that I considered her usage some sort of violation of board rules. It was not. But to me, it is as jarring and annoying as a misspelling or a gammar error- which also people complain about. Grammar errors are not against the SDMB rules. If I thought Shayna’s quote was against the rules, I’d have reported it, as would be proper.
Of course, if it’s against the rules to complain about a posters style or usage, then *mea culpa. *:smack:
It is interesting to see that we’ve been had. I wonder if Cameron was also had. Note that I did say "Martin Eisenstadt has been called “questionable” several times before this. He doesn’t even have a wiki page (yet). "
Well, let’s all be grateful they still found a woman to blame everything on.
I heard the claim was she did not know all the countries in North America, not NAFTA, and I admit I am confused as to how European** territories** can be North American countries. (I believe it; it just confuses me).
I think referring to Africa as a country could be an example of mis-speaking, rather than ignorance.
She didn’t open the door in a towel, she walked out of the bathroom after a shower, and, greeted them, and then went to get dressed. They would have bitch twice as hard if they had been left standing in the hall.
She was kept hidden from the press later in the campaign? Well, where was Joe Biden?
She was highhanded with staff? How would you have behaved if you were the wildly popular Vice Presidential candidate, and you were being treated like a “Wassila Hillbilly” by party hacks? (That remark would have ruin the career of any Democrat associated with it.)
The clothes? Ok, that was unforgivable.
Still, you are all reminding me that Catherine the Great had a thing for horse, Marie Antionette for everything else, Hilary was the anti-christ, … hell, people even hated Eleanor Roosevelt.
How are you going to feel when Michelle has the Secret Service take down some reporter going after Sasha, and the press starts representing her as Lady MacBeth?
Do not make me defend Palin again. I dislike it.
I agree with you, except for the tense used in the final clause.
Where have you been for the last few decades that you consider Republicans fiscally conservative?
Um, you did report it. That’s the only reason I posted to this thread clarifying the situation.
It is of course fine to complain about a poster’s style or usage in the Pit.
This is really stupid. It is just a childish attempt to find something to complain about. You are an idiot.
Making his 42nd appearance on Meet the Press.
Bolding mine.
I know what you mean.
Good for him. Either he is a great guy who wants to protect Fox reporters from those who doubt their stories or things are so bad no one cares if they get identified while trashing Palin - or both.
Thus the premise of the OP is proven.
Not in the final weeks of the campaign, and look at what he said:
SEN. BIDEN: [Palin] had a number of good [lines]. Look, she’s a smart, tough politician, and so I, I think she’s going to be very formidable…
MR. BROKAW: Who was the first person you called after the speech?
SEN. BIDEN: After my speech?
MR. BROKAW: After her speech.
SEN. BIDEN: I** didn’t call anybody. I didn’t–I happened to be–I didn’t get her–I didn’t see her speech, I saw part of it. I–we were, we were flying to–from Florida to Virginia, and I caught the tail end of it. And–oh, I guess I–actually, I called my wife. I called my wife.**
MR. BROKAW: And what did she say?
SEN. BIDEN: She said she thought she was tough. She thought she was tough and she was a good politician.
*
Bless our Vice President Elect’s heart, his constituents love him and that’s good enough for me.
BIDEN: But you know, eventually she’s going to have to sit in front of you like I’m doing and have done. Eventually she’s going to have to answer questions and not be sequestered. Eventually she’s going to have to answer questions about her record.
This was on September 7th.
Biden gave unfiltered interviews all the time, including with that idiot from the local Orlando news affiliate who quoted Marx at him.
Biden has been in Congress and been speaking to the Press for 30 years. The com[parison to Palin is nonsensical. Biden is about as known a quantity as there is in Washington.
Oh, cry me a fucking river. It’s SOP and you know it. You responded as if your silly bullshit objections were the rules around here. That’s called junior modding and that is against the rules here.
Boo fucking hoo. I’m sorry the world’s message boards haven’t yet acclimated to the specific ease-of-use problems you want to prioritize.
I think that depends greatly on delivery, and if anyone can dress up a turd sandwich and make it smell good, it’s Sarah Palin.
Well, gee, Mr. My Way Or The Highway, whose fault is that?
Oops. Guess it was a violation of board rules, wasn’t it, Board King DrDeth?
Did you bold this to point out how stupid it sounds? Because everyone talks like that. Totally faithful transcripts are notorious for representing normal speech patterns–which start, stop, then move in different directions all the time, and which use word and phrase repetition to give speakers time to organize their thoughts–as idiotic blubbering, because spoken language operates on a totally different cadence than written language. If you record anyone in the natural flow of conversation and transcribe them word-for-word, you’ll make them sound like an imbecile. That’s just how transcription works.
“DEATH TO INTOLERANCE ! PUT THE EXTREMISTS TO THE SWORD; GOD WILL KNOW HIS OWN !”
How’s that ?
Honestly, Holy Joe is a pretty typical Conservative Jew, if you ask me. Like what happened to Ed Koch after 9/11.
Should we start calling him Joe the Senator now?
(deleted gammar, someone else saw it.)
Nah. Holy Joe’s his proper nickname. He’s a social conservative and fiscal liberal. Can’t stand the man myself, he stands for censorship and a bunch of other things… but he hasn’t been changing his stances to fit the tides.
