I’m sure there is none, as the aide was referring to her behavior in briefings, which would only have been recorded by morons or persons with axes to grind. If the latter, we’d have heard the recordings long ere now.
I wish my MILF ex had looked like that ![]()
Still, the towel business isn’t that bad is it? LBJ talked to staff when he was having a dump, Winston Churchill didn’t mind meeting people in the nip completely.
Speaking of things we don’t care about…I was pondering the relationship between the Republican and social conservatives. Historically (say, the 1950s & 60s) the core principles of the Republican Party were laissez-faire capitalism, grudgingly minimal social programs, states’ rights, minimal regulation and small government (and anti-communism, which is not such a big deal anymore).
What on that list indicates this needs to be the anti-abortion, anti-gay rights party? Shoot, the libertarian branch of the party would just shrug and say “not our business”.
But they made a bargain with social conservatives, and may need to seriously re-think that.
What’s a “country”? Where exactly does NA start and leave off? I go to the wiki page, and there’s several I have never heard of and a number whose status is debatable (they are territories and some have varying degrees of autonomy). They list something like 23- 41.
I have always considered Central America and the Carrib. to be outside what I consider NA, and by one def , wiki agrees with me "In English, North America is often used to refer to the United States and Canada exclusively.[21] Alternatively, usage may include Mexico[22] (as with North American Free Trade Agreement) and other entities.[23] "
And Greenland is historically more part of Europe.
Is the answer 23? 41? or 3? I’d answer 3= USA, Canada, & Mexico, but then throw in "depending if you include central America and the islands).
Yes, but its still thought of as a bit “odd” and both Churchill and LBJ are considered smart. While Churchill was most certainly the brightest of the three, even LBJ is a freakin’ genius when compared to Palin.
Then they could either be mis-speaks (maybe “nation of Africa”?) or deliberate made up stories to make her look bad.
Not that I think her knowledge on international issue is all that great mind you.
There is; it’s called the Democrats. The Republicans have spent 8 years demonstrating that their small government and less spending talk is just that; talk. They are about as fiscally conservative as a drunk at a casino.
“Tax and spend” ( which is part of the job of the government, when you get right down to it ) is a LOT more fiscally conservative than spending money you don’t have.
So they should vote Democrat ? Seriously; by that definition of conservative, the Democrats are much more “conservative” than the Republicans.
As for guns; they aren’t going away, the Democrats aren’t ever going to come and take your guns. They should, but they won’t.
No, Gov. Palin apparently asked if South Africa was a country or a state.
#5: Plastic surgery. What if she had work done, or lipo, or something? I personally wouldn’t care but maybe she doesn’t want people to know about it.
Sadly, it comes with some guilt. But working for social justice helps to alleviate it.
But I feel better. Until I think about Prop 8…
Dangerosa’s kid 2012!
I’ll let her have the clothes, as long as I don’t have to hear about her damn dog.
Absolutely. Huckabee is intelligent…he’s also a conservative Christian, but he’s an actual CC. His economic policies are populist, and very Christian (as in following the philosophies of Jesus). His only problem this time was money…the business Republicans (the ones with the money) were scared to death of him because of those economic policies.
Here’s some nightmare fuel for us Dems…Huckabee takes his lessons from Obama and encourages small-dollar donations from hundreds of thousands of evangelical and fundamentalist donors. I have no doubt that such a tack will earn him scads of funds. And that could be a problem for us, either in 2012 or 2016.
He’s also immensely likable – heck, I like him, and I’m a gibbering liberal. Of all the possibilities for 2012, he’s up among the top ones that worry me.
Actually, i believe that journalistic ethics dictate that, if you agree to hear an off-the-record comment, you are obliged to respect the wishes of he person who gives you the information.
Now, someone can’t retrospectively tell you that something is off the record. They can’t (or shouldn’t be able to) call you and say, “Hey, that thing i told you on the record last week? That’s now off the record.” Sorry, too late.
But if someone says to you, “I’ll tell you this, but it’s off the record until after the election,” and you choose to hear the information under those conditions, then you are required by journalistic ethics to honor the conditions.
At least, i’m pretty sure that’s how it works. I’d appreciate anyone with newspaper experience who can contribute to this discussion. Paging Jonathan Chance to the thread.
While I am not a journalist I am a Public Relations Director - I ahve always considered “off the record” to be based on trust rather than a legal requirement. If a journalist spills an off the record comment then obviously they will never be trusted again - but the “victim” would have little recourse.
There is a thread somewhere here that backs this up…
Mightn’t that first loss be the '06 election?
Meh, midterm elections aren’t sufficiently ass-bruising.
…a Republican party lawyer is reportedly heading to Alaska to inventory and retrieve the clothes still in Palin’s possession
Let’s hope he is bringing a semi.
Eddie Izzard is a permanent resident (green card holder) and can donate to any US campaign as long as he’s in the US at the time.
Otherwise my donation woulda been illegal too!
I hadn’t known that about him! Thanks–this relieves me, to be honest, since I certainly wanted any of his donations to be legitimate.

No, Gov. Palin apparently asked if South Africa was a country or a state.
Is Palestine a counrty or a state? How about Kurdistan? Actually, there is a subtle difference between a country or a state. Unless you think she thought a US State, which is highly doubtful, and to beleive that I’d have to see a transcript of the comment and in context.
He’s also immensely likable – heck, I like him, and I’m a gibbering liberal. Of all the possibilities for 2012, he’s up among the top ones that worry me.
The problem Huckabee will face, however, is that in order to go up against Obama, he’s going to have to become more populist on economic issues. This is going to scare the shit out of the fatcats, who’re worried about their zillion dollar paychecks. To counteract him, they’ll dust off Romney, and pump him full of cash and send him lumbering around the countryside proclaiming that as a successful businessman he knows what’s good for the economy. At which point, we could see a level of spectacular infighting that makes the worst of the GOP vs Clinton sniping seem like a reserved debate between two elderly British gentlemen by comparison.
This, I think, really needs to happen. If, for no other reason, than it’ll provide some great TV.
