Vote Kelly The defensive/aggressive snark seems out of place, especially for someone who has come across as not having a handle on various game mechanics and their potential implications. His case presented against Mahaloth was very early, and very poor and yet here we are with Mahaloth up to his neck in a tie for the noose.
TexCat - a roleblocker, should there be one, could play merry hob with your plan.
Or a redirector. Really, leash-the-vig is always a spectacularly bad idea, to the point that I think anyone who suggests it is automatically scummy. Again, reference Colorless, where I (as Scum trying to score townie points) pointed out the flaws of leash-the-vig, and my teammate Freudian came along and defended it, because it would have been great for us at the time. Mind you, the actual viggings weren’t much worse, but hey.
See, it’s not that I disagree with any of the points here as facts. They are all true. For instance, the defensive/aggressive snark is a bit odd, and certainly exists. But I can’t see why it’s an indicator of Scum rather than just a player who has decided to play defensively/aggressively.
I dunno. But I know this:
Mahaloth has claimed Plankton. Kelly Criterion has not claimed (or did he? Did I miss it? I don’t think I did), and may never do so if he happens to not be around. Since Mahaloth claimed Plankton, what we have seen is a shift from Mahaloth-as-leader to Kelly-as-leader.
If both Mahaloth and Kelly turn out to be non-Scum, then we might want to revisit this moment down the line. Why? Well, imagine for a moment that you are Scum. There are two candidates on the block, and in this hypothetical, both are Town (or at least, non-Scum; as Scum, that’s all you can know about them). There is mild pressure to place your vote on one or the other; you can probably get away with not doing so, but you can also get away with shifting a vote to one of the two candidates for sort of minimal reasons, because after all, there’s a consensus developing that voting for one or the other is the pro-Town thing to do, right?
So you have these two candidates, and one of them is in the lead by a narrow margin. And that leader claims Vanilla. The non-leader has not claimed.
If you were Scum, wouldn’t you feel a certain amount of motivation to place your vote to move the non-leader into the lead? Maybe it’s the Detective, or some other power role that you’d be happier without. And if not, well, no harm done, one vanilla gets lynched instead of another. Later, when both are revealed to have been Town, your late add-on vote won’t look suspicious.
Of course, this might not be all that relevant. If Mahaloth is Scum and Kelly is Town, a late vote for Kelly could be an effort to rescue the former. Hm. In which case, the late votes for Kellystill look a little suspicious, don’t they?
If Kelly is Scum and Mahaloth is Town… well, in such a case the late votes for Kelly don’t really indicate anything at all, and this is a useless road to travel.
I am not going to vote for either Mahaloth or Kelly right now. I weakly oppose Kelly’s lynch (I don’t see the case against him as having much merit and worry that he hasn’t had a chance to claim) but cannot prevent it with my vote; I am more or less agnostic regarding Mahaloth. I’ll continue to monitor the situation and will change my vote to avert a tie, if necessary.
But I am going to vote. Those two late votes for Kelly seem very odd to me, for the reasons above. Rysto’s, in particular, seems oddly undermotivated for a vote that creates a tie (undesirable). So:
unvote all vote Rysto
I retain my other vote, unused, in order that I might apply it if any funny business seems to be happening with the lynch.
I can see any number of problems, but I still think it’s worth a shot. I would hope that pondie blockers and redirectors would stay out of the way, and I don’t know why scum would bother getting in the way if Story is indeed a pondie vig. If they do, then that buys us some info, as well.
I don’t see why a scum Kelly would go off on one with a probable mislynch in the bag. I don’t rate cross-bussing to be particularly likely, it’s not a good move for scum early in the game.
In fairness, TexCat doesn’t think I’m telling the truth. What he’s proposing isn’t really “leash-the-Vig,” at least, not in his head. He doesn’t think I’ll be blocked or redirected by the Scum because he thinks I’m one of them. From that standpoint, I guess it makes sense.
Although Texcat’s gambit here amounts to an unforced claim of Vanilla, which is problematic. If he’s Town, he’s basically just narrowed the hiding pool for the power roles by one - and all as part of a plan that won’t actually accomplish its intended goal (to prove my alignment one way or another).
They then moved on to Mahaloth. It seems the Pond is getting pretty good at killing Plankton, too.
Mahaloth, a Plankton, is dead
It is now Winter 3. There are currently no Spawn in the pond. Strategy discussion should be put on hold. Summer 4 will start this Saturday at the usual time.
@Town - I’m going away for a few days and will have limited access and time to look at the game. I’ll try to check in Sunday, and will be back home on Wednesday morning.
Once again, the denizens of the Pond roused themselves from Winter, and nature’s cycle continues. It seems that the denizens are not the only ones killing Plankton: ComeToTheDarkSide apparently did not Have Cookies, since she starved over the winter.
ComeToTheDarkSideWeHaveCookies, a Plankton, is dead
But spring, as always, brings new life:
A Spawn has appeared.
Summer 4 begins now, and will end on Thursday at 1:00 PM MST. Strategy discussion may resume. There is currently one Spawn in the pond.
