There is something seriously wrong with the guy. I mean, seriously.
I did mention in one of the threads that I had an Unk who was just slightly older than I thus increasing my access to cool toys back in the 60’s. Never thought it would give him fodder.
How does “ballbusting” differ from trolling?
I trust you let the mods know you were receiving abusive PMs?
Did you shoot your eye out?
It’s really unfortunate that we don’t have moderators on this bulletin board, who could enforce vague rules about being a dick.
Guess there’s nothing anyone could possibly do.
We can’t see PMs sent between posters directly. A PM would need to be reported by the recipient before we could take action.
The rules for PMs are the same as for posting. However, we need to see the original PM for verification. I would encourage anyone receiving an abusive PM to report it. However, also notify a mod by PM since no individual mod would receive the report. (It goes to a separate forum.)
That’s a fair point. I’ve never, ever seen any firsthand evidence of Scumpup acting in any other way than to reflect great credit on himself and this board.
This scurrilous PM simply must be an aberration. (If it exists at all!)
I find it completely credible, since he has also sent me abusive PMs. But we do have protocols. I would need to see the actual PM to do anything. While I don’t doubt anything pkbites has quoted, it would be too easy for someone to make up accusations.
What do you propose should be done, exactly?:dubious: Stop being snide and say what you mean.
The guy has been an outrageous jerk for years. I don’t think this is a matter like some posters have sincerely held but extreme political views that are barely distinguishable from someone just being a troll. This dude just goes batshit on everyone at the drop of a hat.
I don’t know if he’s racked up warnings or not, but I just cannot figure how his abusive style of posting - or apparently sending PMs - is tolerated by the powers that be. The way I see it, he’s a like a serial abuser that nobody dare do anything about. It’s baffling.
Well, he’s back at randomly attacking people he doesn’t like in threads on other subjects. Still too chickenshit to address this thread.
I was another receiver of an abusive PM from him. He posted a drive-by boob joke in a thread about restaurants. When I commented on it, he posted a reply but quickly deleted it. I got a PM a few minutes later with ASCII art of the middle finger, which I presume was in the original deleted post (I guess you could confirm that, Colibri).
It was easier to delete the PM and ignore him rather than report the PM at the time. Of course, now I slightly regret not providing more documentation of his uselessness.
For a moment I thought you meant a joke about a drive-by boobing.
I have no idea how that would work.
By present standards, the original boob joke would have gotten him a warning. Unfortunately since it was more than four years ago there’s not much we can do about that or the PM.
I don’t mind the jab, but it does seem a bit out of left field. Guess he was enjoying XT and Dibble’s yes you did! no I didn’t! yes you did! slap fight a lot more than I was.
(And he’s a bit off on the timeline. I can pinpoint the exact date when my sense of humor died, and it was closer to two and a half years ago.)
You could note that he clearly hasn’t gotten less awful and act accordingly?
I’m aware of that already. Warning him retroactively wouldn’t accomplish anything.
His drive-bys don’t really have anything to do with the poster he’s directed them at. It just means his hemorrhoids are acting up again.
Are you trying to make me curious or something? Because, damn you, it’s working.
Me too. I’m trying to think of anything that could’ve happened in–what, November 2016 or thereabouts?–that could make a person stop laughing.
An unpleasant Thanksgiving that year, maybe?
But seriously: I stopped listening to what had been a long-term favorite show of mine, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, after that awful Tuesday…I couldn’t tolerate the idea of joking about IT and thereby normalizing IT. So I can kind of identify with the Turnip’s remark.
Nope. It has to be irritable bowel syndrome.
