Just discovered that the Straight Dope home page (https://www.straightdope.com) is being blocked by all of my browsers (IE, Edge, Chrome). Am getting a “site not secure” error.
Was able to get to the boards to report this via https://boards.straightdope.com.
Huh. Same here, with Edge at least.
No problem using Safari to get to the main page.
Seems to be working now, not sure what the issue was.
I just checked and Firefox won’t open it. The link goes to a redirect.vigilink.com address that never loads, and I get a warning box from Mozilla’s NoScript that says “NoScript detected a potential Cross-Site Scripting attack”. I did not give permission to allow the script(not taking chances today), so I don’t know if the SD main page would then load.
Only thing that looks different to me is all the ads. Pup up, etc. Way too many now.
Ah yes, the ones that pop up and bark at you until you open them. Really annoying!
I use an adblocker (and Firefox). There’s a lot more blank space than I recall, but I accessed it just fine.
So, the problem is probably the ads.
