Ok, because this week will have, by far, the most waiver requests, and I want to make sure I get it right, I’m going to post the data and “show my work” on how I awarded players. This includes posting who everyone wanted, which I don’t think is secret information once the waiver period has passed - in this case I want to make sure I have it right, so I hope no one minds.
Here’s the list, preceeded by their starting waiver position.
1 Ellis Dee
Ward
Clemens
2 chuck
witten (this was the “free pick”) but since it doesn’t affect anyone else’s waivers I’ll just treat it like a waiver)
curry
Minnesota
Lamont Jordan
4 Omni
Chris Brown
LaMont Jordan
Wes Welker
Jason Witten
6 Dio
Hasselbeck
Randel El
Chris Brown
Welker
Berrian
Jurevicious
8 SenorBeef
Chris Brown
And here’s how I did the waivers.
This is to be read as [Claiming team] [claimed player] [new position on the waiver list of claiming team, in this case 8] [new waiver positions of people who got moved up]
For example, this line: Loune Jay Cutler 8 Dio 7 Omni 6 Chuck 5 Ellis 4
Means
“LOUNE selected Jay Cutler, moving him back to 8th in waivers. Dio moves up to 7th, Omni moves up to 6th, Chuck moves up to 5th, and Ellis Dee moves up to 4th” - then, since Ellis Dee is the highest waiver claim at that point (as places 1-3 aren’t involved at this stage), he would be the next waiver processed. For the first series of waiver claims I put (#) before the claiming team’s name to specify what their starting waver position is.
(1)Ellis Ward 8
(2)Chuck Witten 8 Ellis 7
(4)Omni Chris Brown 8 Chuck 7 Ellis 6
(6)Dio Hasselbeck 8 Omni 7 Chuck 6 Ellis 5
(7)Loune Leinart 8 Dio 7 Omni 6 Chuck 5 Ellis 4

Now here’s an issue we didn’t plan for, and I don’t expect it to factor in too often, but because this is the first week and some people need lots of players, it has come up big.
People are sending in more waiver claims than they want to add to their roster, and I’m not sure how to handle it. On one hand, if they send only in as many claims as they have roster spots, they might not fill their roster if one or more of their players is taken before they can get them. On the other hand - what do we do when people win more players than they need? In Loune’s case in particular, does he win all 20+ people he put in a waiver for? Get to pick and choose the best? When do the others become free agents?
One solution to this is to use a conditional claim system like this:
- Player 1
2a) Player 2
2b) Player 3
2c) Player 4
Read as “I want player 1 for one claim, and 2a for the next claim, but if 2a is taken then take 2b, if 2b is taken take 2c” - but the person in question would be saying that, at most, they would win 2 waiver claims. If we tied that to a system whereby you must sign the players you win to your roster, I think that would end up solving everything.
Again, this shouldn’t be such a big issue - we won’t have a storm of waiver claims again like we did this week - but for now, what should we do about this?
For now, consider the players that I declared you won under the summary section as your own, barring any errors, which you can bring up, and you can sign them. We need to discuss this issue further, but if you sign some of your won players but decide against signing the rest, they’ll probably become free agents, so sign everyone you want from your list at one time.
