SDMB Auction fantasy football league

Yours was fine, I got it. I was just reminding everyone else.

Edit: You could’ve waited until you saw the games to send them, by the way - they’re not processed by the order that they’re received, but I’ll look to see who the highest person on the waiver is with a claim, then move them back to the end, then the next highest, etc.

I put in a waiver claim myself, actually. I sent myself an e-mail, which is silly, I guess, just to make it official.

Right. I understand waiver wire work. I love doing it every year.

Those were players I’d pick up regardless. Finer tweaks are on the way.

Have an issue. We discussed earlier that the fairest thing to do would be to give chuck a free pick before the games started because he was erroneously told his roster was full when it wasn’t, and he had the money to outbid anyone on any player at that point.

However, he didn’t get a response to me until just now, which means he has the benefit of having seen the games this weekend for his free pick.

So how should we handle it? It was my fault that the topic slipped my mind for a few days and I only told him about the free pick on IIRC Friday, but on the other hand a free pick after the games is more valuable than a free pick before the games. His pick isn’t someone who’s a surprise fantasy value because they’re a backup of an injured player or anything like that like that - it’s one of the better players that went undrafted, but he did have a good game this weekend.

He also sent in some waivers, so it may end up that, if no one contests the player in question or the first one in his waiver claim, since he’s going to the back of the line anyway, it won’t really matter - it would have the same effect of him putting in a waiver for him.

Well, yes and no. The person he’s picking up is almost certainly going to be a bench player. He’s already seen week one’s games, so I’d say the statute of limitations on the offer is over.
However, I do understand the offer, and feel the offer itself was fair.

If Chuck sent in the waivers before the games were over (or at least before the game of the first player on his list was done), I’d say just give him the top player from the list without affecting his waiver priority, and then process the rest of his list in normal order.

But because Chuck never does things earlier than they absolutely have to, I’m guessing he sent them in last night. In which case, LOUNE’s right.

I agree with this.

All I know is that Derrick Ward is MINE, ALL MINE!!!

hehheh.

This effectively means that I paid $86 for Ward. How sad is that?

Pretty sad.

Good if effective, though.

Barring new waiver claims, Chuck’s pick won’t conflict with anything so it won’t matter.

Well, that’s not so bad.
Say, how many fantasy leagues are you guys in?

Whats the deadline on waiver claims?

I have a few to send later tonight.

We’re trying 11pm EST, with free agency open at midnight, which gives me an hour to announce the claims.

So waiver claims start at 11, go for an hour until free agency hits at midnight?

No, 11pm is the deadline that the e-mails have to be sent by. At some point between 11 and 12 I announce who wins what, and then at 12 you’re free to add your winning waiver claims, and any other free agents, to your roster.

Will you be posting a second “free agency is open” notice to the league page?

Please do. I have an email coming to you shortly.

Email sent, please let me know if you don’t get it.

Good luck keeping up with the 11PM/Midnight deadlines, Beef. I commished my efficiency-centric leagues for two years (were you in those?) using basically the same waiver system, and I was always forgetting to get it done on time, much to my embarassment and everyone else’s consternation.

Ok, because this week will have, by far, the most waiver requests, and I want to make sure I get it right, I’m going to post the data and “show my work” on how I awarded players. This includes posting who everyone wanted, which I don’t think is secret information once the waiver period has passed - in this case I want to make sure I have it right, so I hope no one minds.

Here’s the list, preceeded by their starting waiver position.

1 Ellis Dee
Ward
Clemens

2 chuck
witten (this was the “free pick”) but since it doesn’t affect anyone else’s waivers I’ll just treat it like a waiver)
curry
Minnesota
Lamont Jordan

4 Omni
Chris Brown
LaMont Jordan
Wes Welker
Jason Witten

6 Dio
Hasselbeck
Randel El
Chris Brown
Welker
Berrian
Jurevicious

8 SenorBeef
Chris Brown

And here’s how I did the waivers.

This is to be read as [Claiming team] [claimed player] [new position on the waiver list of claiming team, in this case 8] [new waiver positions of people who got moved up]

For example, this line: Loune Jay Cutler 8 Dio 7 Omni 6 Chuck 5 Ellis 4
Means

“LOUNE selected Jay Cutler, moving him back to 8th in waivers. Dio moves up to 7th, Omni moves up to 6th, Chuck moves up to 5th, and Ellis Dee moves up to 4th” - then, since Ellis Dee is the highest waiver claim at that point (as places 1-3 aren’t involved at this stage), he would be the next waiver processed. For the first series of waiver claims I put (#) before the claiming team’s name to specify what their starting waver position is.

(1)Ellis Ward 8
(2)Chuck Witten 8 Ellis 7
(4)Omni Chris Brown 8 Chuck 7 Ellis 6
(6)Dio Hasselbeck 8 Omni 7 Chuck 6 Ellis 5
(7)Loune Leinart 8 Dio 7 Omni 6 Chuck 5 Ellis 4
Ellis Clemens 8 Loune 7 Dio 6 Omni 5 Chuck 4
Chuck Curry 8 Ellis 7 Loune 6 Dio 5 Omni 4
Omni L Jordan 8 Chuck 7 Ellis 6 Loune 5 Dio 4
Dio Randel El 8 Omni 7 Chuck 6 Ellis 5 Loune 4
Loune Jay Cutler 8 Dio 7 Omni 6 Chuck 5 Ellis 4
Chuck Minn 8 Loune 7 Dio 6 Omni 5
Omni Welker 8 Chuck 7 Loune 6 Dio 5
Dio Berrian 8 Omni 7 Chuck 6 Loune 5
Loune Grossman 8 Dio 7 Omni 6 Chuck 5
Dio Jurevicious 8 Loune 7
Loune C Taylor 8 Dio 7
Loune Dunn 8 (everyone past here is a LOUNE claim, see below)
Jason Campbell
Chris Chambers
Matt Schaub
Ben Watson
Jerry Porter
J.P. Losman
Daunte Culpepper
Joey Harrington
Brandon Jackson
DeAngelo Williams
Brandon Jones
Deverey Henderson
LenDale White
Selvin Young
Jerome Harrison
Kevin Jones
Reuben Droughns

Summary:
Ellis Dee wins Ward, RB, NYG, and Clemens, QB, NYJ
Chuck wins Jason Witten, R Curry, Minnesota defense
Omni wins Chris Brown, LaMont Jordan, W Welker
Dio wins Hasselbeck, Randel El, Berrian, Jurevicious
Loune wins Leinart, Cutler, Grossman, Chester Taylor, Dunn, J Campbell, C Chambers, Shaub, B Watson, J Porter, JP Losman, Culpepper, J Harrington (I cut this list at 13, the number of slots he has left)

Finishing waiver order:

Now here’s an issue we didn’t plan for, and I don’t expect it to factor in too often, but because this is the first week and some people need lots of players, it has come up big.

People are sending in more waiver claims than they want to add to their roster, and I’m not sure how to handle it. On one hand, if they send only in as many claims as they have roster spots, they might not fill their roster if one or more of their players is taken before they can get them. On the other hand - what do we do when people win more players than they need? In Loune’s case in particular, does he win all 20+ people he put in a waiver for? Get to pick and choose the best? When do the others become free agents?

One solution to this is to use a conditional claim system like this:

  1. Player 1
    2a) Player 2
    2b) Player 3
    2c) Player 4

Read as “I want player 1 for one claim, and 2a for the next claim, but if 2a is taken then take 2b, if 2b is taken take 2c” - but the person in question would be saying that, at most, they would win 2 waiver claims. If we tied that to a system whereby you must sign the players you win to your roster, I think that would end up solving everything.

Again, this shouldn’t be such a big issue - we won’t have a storm of waiver claims again like we did this week - but for now, what should we do about this?

For now, consider the players that I declared you won under the summary section as your own, barring any errors, which you can bring up, and you can sign them. We need to discuss this issue further, but if you sign some of your won players but decide against signing the rest, they’ll probably become free agents, so sign everyone you want from your list at one time.

I was hoping that having it open at midnight yahoo time on Wedneday would be the most fair way to do it - it doesn’t rely on people seeing my message that waiver results were claimed, everyone knows free agency opens at the same time, and it’s easy to check the yahoo time stamp to see if a free agent claim was valid.

We can discuss it if you see any flaws with that.

That said, free agency will be open at 12am yahoo time. You can start signing your won waiver claims any time you want.

When people release players now, they’ll be subject to the normal yahoo waiver system. If you choose to pick up someone’s cut player in the waiver period, you will use a waiver claim. Just wanted to make it clear that both our custom waiver system, and yahoo’s automatic waiver system, use the same waiver list.
