I have the top projected score in both of my leagues this week. It will be glorious.
Gee, I fail to see how a statement like that can be followed with a declaration of defeat!
in other words…
It’ll almost CERTAINLY be followed up with a statement of defeat. Probably complete and total defeat.
I heartily agree. Thanks, LOUNE.
I posted this to the other league thread, but it’s relevant here too:
If someone forgets to check on his roster for a week, and ends up starting a backfield of Tiki Barber and Eddie George, I say let 'em live with it. I think we should only consider this as an option if an owner obviously abandons their team.
ETA: If we give the commish approval to edit people’s rosters willy-nilly, -I’ll- be starting Eddie, Tiki, and David Klingler this week.
Nah I wouldn’t abuse my position at all… bringing this whole thing up hurts me, actually, since in the other league the only person without a set roster is against me.
I’m leaning towards this decision now, and not changing anything. However if the consensus turns out to be the other way, I can retroactively change who the starter for the team was.
For those of you with out/bye players, I suggest switching them to be starters now, it’s not too late, or failing that, pick up free agents for later games if you need to.
I’m in a world of “game-time decision” hell in my three leagues. Ahman Green is out; I suspect Samkon Gado will be the fantasy replacement for him considering his performance last week, but the official word seems to be Ron Dayne. As a Giants fan, I’m just not buying that. But still, I can’t justify starting Gado, so I tossed Greg Jennings in the flex spot.
In this league I have both Jacobs and Ward, and need to start one of them. Worst comes to worst I suppose I could sign Droughns, but I’d estimate the chances of him starting between slim and none. If neither Ward nor Jacobs can go, I expect Bradhsaw to get the start. But god damn, how many injuries / game-time decisions am I gonna have to deal with?
With Eli being “out four weeks” and Plaxico reinjuring an ankle that “could keep him out three weeks”, I flat-out don’t trust ESPN in anything they say. At least not in regards to the Giants.
Nice toss with Jennings catching 421.
Well, half of my glorious FF weekend worked out. I have by far the best score in the other league with Housh still to play.
But fairly dissapointing in this one.
Leading the show was McNabb. He throws for like 360/4 last week, so who’s going to sit him against a weak (?) Giants defense and instead start Kitna against Chicago? Apparently the fabric of reality is aware of my bench, and I can control the entire NFL through the mere act of starting or benching players.
Steve Smith underperformed. Hey, it happens. I’m not going to bench him.
Edwards had a pretty nice 15.7 point day, I definitely made the right choice on the #3 receiver.
Mostly solid but unspectacular days for everyone else. If McNabb had had a solid day, then Moss would’ve only had to have put up a pretty modest day.
But as it is, I need Moss to make up a 26.62 point gap. It’s never very likely for any particular player to put up numbers that big… but Randy Moss vs Cincinatti might just be about the ideal scenario. It’ll be an exciting Monday night for me anyway.
Moss definitely kept me squeamish tonight. I wonder how many Monday Night games have had two starting RBs that have been on 99.9% of waiver wires in every FF league in the world.
To clear something up… I think we discussed this on the other league thread.
When a player is on yahoo waivers, because another team cut him, then yahoo waivers superscede our waiver system. So if a player was cut saturday night, and had his game on Sunday… he’d normally go on our waiver system as of kickoff of his game, but because he was already on yahoo waivers when he would’ve otherwise become eligible on our waiver system, then the in-league yahoo system will be used to resolve that waiver claim. So in this case you’d file a yahoo waiver claim (by selecting add player in the league) rather than e-mail me about it.
You could also e-mail me waiver claims on additional players.
Something we also covered over there that we might not have covered here - try to tell me how many players you’re willing to sign, and feel free to make a conditional claim. For instance, if you wanted a QB and RB, you could say:
I want to sign 2 players. Give me QB1 if he’s there, otherwise QB2. I also want RB1, otherwise RB2.
That way we won’t have a situation where someone wins 3 players even though they only wanted to sign one.
So discussing things we could improve with this league next year, what are some of the things you liked and disliked about it so far?
I think, overall, given that none of us have ever done anything like this, the draft ran fairly smoothly, and the league has been fun.
The league has surprisingly good parity, I think. There are close matches every week, no one or two teams dominate, and no one or two teams totally suck (Ellis Dee’s all-NY team isn’t great, but it’s done decently enough for a novelty team). There were some lopsided victories early on, but that seems to be true of FF in general before people have a feel for the league in the new season. It’s smoothed out and become very close over the last 2 weeks.
As far as actually conducting the draft, next year I’m going to ask for volunteers to split the various duties with me. I had some help this year, but it was unplanned. We’ll have one guy managing the actual auctions (I can keep the pace up better if I’m not double checking who’s left, writing down who was taken, etc), one guy keeping a drafted player list with the winning team and price, one guy to monitor the remaining money of each player, one guy to make a roster for each team (seperate from a master draft list, and also provides redundancy) and make sure no one wins more players than they have slots. Now that we know what we’re in for, I think we could make the draft run really smoothly next year.
Something that should be considered is rather than having a big waiver period after games each week, we have a bidding period. Your money would either be:
We could either use silent bidding through e-mail, or hold public auctions on the FF thread.
It would even open the possibility of using remaining money as part of a trade package.
We could tweak the roster/scoring/etc. and all that. I wanted to keep it pretty basic this year because the whole auction thing was new enough.
Discuss.
I have grandiose plans for this, though I can’t unveil them for another month or two.
Indeed, you wouldn’t want to… uh…er…yeah.

Is it actually possible that I might pull this out?
Unlikely still… I have a 3.58 lead with Barber against me.
I just assumed I’d have lost during the first quarter, but so far Barber has 11 yards, with a quarter and a half to go.
I’ll probably still lose, but man would that be awesome.
He needs 25 more yards.
… so they run like 4 out of the next 5 plays to him, and he gets…
drumroll
exactly 25 yards.
Woo.
Last week’s high scores (I forgot):
WhereAreTheWhores? 97.32
Last Place 92.84
Cobra Kai 92.74
Exploding Pancakes 88.32
Remarkably close scores that week. 6 people were in the 85.76 to 92.84 range.
This week’s top scores:
Good Rex Bad Rex 99.16
Last Place 97.10
Exploding Pancakes 95.44
Overly Sentimental 92.46
2 weeks in a row I lost by less than 5 points
Overall rankings sorted by total scores (the numbers are the actual league rank):
1. Good Rex Bad Rex 4-1 543.60
2. Last Place 4-1 508.42
5. Exploding Pancakes 2-3 500.26
3. Cobra Kai 3-2 437.88
7. Varlos' Zzzzzzz 1-4 424.6
8. Overly Sentimental 1-4 418.40
6. New York Fanboys 2-3 411.24
4. WhereAreTheWhores? 3-2 392.32
In both my leagues my score rank is higher than my actual rank. Oh well. It tends to even out over the year in total.
