SDMB Dynasty League: Year One

Which part of “middling” didn’t you understand? Witten will do nicely, thanks - I accepted.

No idea what I’m going to do with both Witten and Owen Daniels next year, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it

One of the spots is a W/T spot so you can start 2 TEs.

Yeah, but there aren’t that many scenarios under which I’d rather start a TE than even a mid-level wideout. That said, considering my lack of WR depth (having essentially traded Brandon Marshall for Owen Daniels and now Burleson for Witten) this might be one of those scenarios.

You’re welcome. I probably should have held on to Witten for the future (Tony Gonzalez can’t play forever), but I’ve decided to mortgage the future for a chance to win this year.

This is exactly why I wanted to move Witten for a better WR option. Tony Gonzalez is my #1 TE and he puts up WR-like numbers, so having a better scoring option at the T/W flex will definitely help me.

The last week of trading should be interesting as clear non-contenders may trade away a good player to someone who has a shot at winning the championship in exchange for more future potential.

Speaking of which, who wants Randy Moss?!

Assuming this is cool with Varlos, this is a rule I posted in the leagues I run and I suggest we use it too:

"Our waiver system puts everyone on waivers from Sunday at 1pm Eastern until Tuesday. This means that there’s nothing to prohibit you from picking up a player after they’ve played their Thursday night game (ie a team’s QB goes down on Thursday night and you can grab his backup without going through waivers).

This is against the spirit of our system and will not be allowed. Yahoo won’t stop you, but I will revert any pickups like this manually. This is a flaw in yahoo’s implementation of the system.

The players who play on Thursday night will go into the general waiver pile on Sunday at 1pm along with all the other players in the league. You can put a claim on them then."

I would agree with that. I assumed Thursday night players would automatically go into the Sunday waiver pile early.

What do you want for Moss? I’ve made a point of trading/drafting only players in their prime (or younger, where possible), other than LJ and Fred Taylor, so I won’t give you much for him. Actually, you can have LJ and Taylor if you want. I’d say there’s a 50/50 chance LJ ends up somewhere where he’ll be startable next year, but if he goes to, say, Houston, where he might even be starting this season, the price goes up.

Yahoo’s options for the waiver period are “kickoff of first game” or “Sunday 1pm”, both of which are clunky. Kickoff of first game is a bad idea because you wouldn’t be able to pick up free agents from Thursday Night until Sunday morning, which is silly. But the Sunday 1pm option means that you can grab anyone from a Thursday or Saturday night game before then. I don’t know why they don’t just have a “5 minutes before kickoff” option like they do in the pick 'em leagues.

Sunday at 1pm is clearly the better option, it’s just that we need an agreement not to poach Thursday and Saturday night breakout players before the general waiver period.

As for Moss, I’d want more than LJ who may end up out of the league and Taylor who will probably retire. He has clear value this year as he’s a top 5 wideout, and his skills aren’t going to take a big nose dive next year. A receiver of his talent could play until his late 30s. I’d want a young promising RB or receiver.

Well, alright, but just remember I offered you a chance to get in on the ground floor of the Larry Johnson Express.

How about Taylor and Robert Meachem?

Taylor is basically worthless at this point, so no, we’re not in the same ballpark. We’re talking about a top 5 receiver who is likely to remain top 10-15 for at least another year. You’re essentially offering Robert Meachem for Randy Moss, and even factoring in the age that doesn’t come close to making sense for me.

Well, it was worth a shot. I’m also quite happy to hold on to Meachem until next season, when Devery Henderson will be gone. He could become a top-5 guy very, very quickly in that offense.

For now, I need to shore up my existing roster. I’d like to handcuff Ced Ben, but I can’t figure out who the hell would take his job. He’s got ~200 carries and nobody else on the Bengals roster has more than 20!

I think what’s his face on my roster is the backup in the event that he goes down.

His name probably could actually be Whatshisface, and I wouldn’t know any better. Somebody called B. Scott got 6 straight carries when they were burning clock at the end of the Chicago game, but Brian Leonard has a better pedigree.

I play Hamlet this week, who by the grace of [del]God[/del] me has the second-highest scoring team (since I let him draft AP/AD with the #3 pick by rushing to take Turner when I assumed AP would go #1, and effectively traded Brandon Marshall to for free.)

Yeah, that works for me. Seems like a pretty uncontroversial idea around here.
I got all excited when I saw you talking about Moss, thinking I could maybe snag him cheap. Then I looked at the standings and realized my team kinda sucks this year. I think my team has a little more upside than yours, but right now I need to be thinking about the future just as much as you. Too bad, too, because I had a player in mind that I think maybe could’ve gotten the deal done. I’d say who, but I’m thinking of making a different offer involving that player and don’t want people potentially dragging his name down in public (and, also, your reaction to a “Player X for Moss” deal could set the market, which you might not want).

Trade:

Varlos sends:
WR Sidney Rice
QB Vince Young

Fightin’ Quakers (furt) sends:
RB Jonathan Stewart
WR Michael Crabtree
I pick up two good prospects, **furt **picks up a suddenly frisky Vince Young and (gulp) the breakout WR who’s leading the NFC in receiving at the age of 23. I’m worried about regretting this trade for years to come, but I think I had to do it. If nothing else, from a franchise perspective, I’m exactly two RBs deep (Barber and Moreno).

furt is stockpiling Vince Youngs! He gave me Eli Manning for him in HHM.

Rosters needing adjustment are Varlos (also need to adjust the auction league) and Ellis Dee.

Serenity now.

Serenity now.

Serenity now.

Oooh. That’s going to make it a little tricky to nab that wild card, eh?

Bernard Scott was running at will over the Raiders, and yet Palmer got two short yardage rushing touchdowns grumble

Now I need 15 points out of Slaton.
