SDMB Fantasy Baseball Signups

Where do we sign up? What’s the league ID/password

Hasn’t been posted yet. We’re holding off on sign-ups until we figure out the format and all that jazz.

Well, my idea would be that we all take turns picking actual major league baseball players until we each have a full team, then track their statistics as the season progresses, assigning these stats a point value. At the end of the year we could add up all the statistics, distribute the respective points, and whoever has the most points would be declared the winner. Hows that sound?

Yeah, like THAT will ever be popular.

So, let’s get this party started.

Wilson or Omni (whoever’s commishing this bad boy), shall we start e-mailing out information? I think 1 big league is all we’re prepared for at this point, which is dandy. So, to finalize…

Positions:
C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, IF, LF, CF, RF, OF, Util
SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P
7 bench spots
(I kinda vote for instead of IF, splitting it into CI and MI. Any takers? That’d drop the bench to 6.)

Categories:
Hitting: R, HR, SB, RBI, OPS (or OBP? or OPS and SLG?)
Pitching: W, K, SV, ERA, WHIP (or Holds?)

I agree completely with splitting IF into CI/MI. For 5x5 I like OBS. For 6x6 OBP and SLG plus holds for pitchers.

My email is in my profile.

I’m willing to commish a league if necessary - but if you or Omni want to, that’s more than fine.
My vote is the way you have it listed if we are using 5x5, or replace OPS by OBP and SLG and add holds to go to six stats.
I’m indifferent on MI/CI vs one IF spot.

Or on preview, mostly what colour wolf said…

I have a March 23, 5:30 EST time as well. I have a feeling your time may be better. Let’s let the public vote on which is the most convenient, and go with that league.

Either time works fine, but if it were up to me, I’d choose the March 31st time slot. (April 1st here)

Either is fine with me… more likely I’d make the beginning of the 10pm eastern one on the 31st, then again, we went what like three hours last time  Will probably make most of (if not the all of) the draft regardless, though.

As long as I have at least a week’s notice, I can make either draft time.

I’m so ready for this thing to kick off.

Generally speaking, late nights (Eastern) time are better for me. There’s always a chance I’ll be on an airplane, particularly if it’s a Sunday or Friday, but there’s no way I can predict that in advance – better we should schedule the draft and I’ll work my travel schedule around it if possible. March 23 at 5:30 Eastern might be tough, depending on where I am, but I generally try to keep the early evening hours clear to spend a little time with the wife and kids if I’m not on the road. So I’d prefer March 31 at 9 pm, but I’ll do my best to be there whichever way we go.

Munch, I’m already part of Zev’s league. But thanks for having me in mind.

Go Royals! Steroid-free and it shows!

I say we go with Mulli’s league. Mullinator - you wants to send out the info?

Hey, we’ll be good if:

  1. Dee Brown can drop 80 lbs.
  2. Pickering can do the same.
  3. Runelvys’ arm doesn’t fall off.
  4. DeJesus lives up to his Team MVP award.
  5. Buck lives up to expectations.
  6. We find a 2B.
  7. Teahan turns into George Brett overnight.
  8. Affeldt’s blisters turn into some magical Samson’s-long-hair-like entity.
  9. Cleveland joins the AL East.
  10. Minnesota joins the NL West.
  11. We can work with a 3 man rotation.
  12. LIMA TIME!

Just a guess, but did you mean my league? I’m assuming so since I didn’t notice Mully mentioning one.

Let me know, seems the concensus is that my draft time is the fave,so I’m all for it.

Munch, did you get anything close to a final head count? Should I set it up as one big 18 team league again, or what? We can tweak the stats accordingly.

Also, I’m open to the idea of the CI/MI breakout, but I thought last years league was a hair too thin. I wanted a little smaller roster if we’re going with 18 teams again. Looking at it, I think there might even be more bench spots making it even shallower this year. If thats the popular vote, cool, just want to have a discussion about it before setting up the league and making an executive decision.

Everyone who’s interested and following this, please chime in and let me know your paying attention so we can see how many players to expect.

Here, planning on doing it, and anything is really fine with me. I tend to agree that we don’t need to go any deeper than last year, though - as it was, there was more than one team that had very marginal fantasy players in their starting lineup every day after some injuries hit, and I wouldn’t really think that to be much fun.

Yup, I meant you, Omni. (I must have been in a reality show thread before that, where I run into Mullinator.)

Let’s stick with just IF instead of CI/MI - your point is pretty on-target. Also, the max for Yahoo leagues is 20, which isn’t all that different from 18 - it’s madness after 16 anyway.

I was a little surprised considering my long standing efforts to reject all forms of responsibility for much of anything.

Yes, you’ve been very responsible in that regard.

I’m still here and interested… your time slot works for me. I agree with not going to MI/CI if we’re going to have a deep league.
