SDMB Fantasy Baseball

Now you’ve got yourself four teams, dan. I should be good for the draft. I’m the Maricopa Cabanas.

In other news, my jerk-ass brother called me this morning from the Red Sox training camp. I hate him.

Ah, thanks, Munch. Four teams are better’n three. Even if no other teams show up, it’d be an interesting draft.

Out on Waveland is signed p in a nick of time. Glad to see e’re back on again, I need to avenge my late season slide from last year.

BTW, thanks for setting things up, and the current draft time works well for me. I’m out of town from the 17th to the 22nd, and I work during the day. Early weekday evenings are ideal.

13 spots filled, folks. 7 are still open. White Lightning, are you out there?

I’ve just signed up for your leage, dantheman - Wilson’s Warriors, in case you couldn’t guess.

Besides WL, I’ve noticed you’re still missing Fatwater Fewl in your league, Munch. The two guys who said they were working on the Fantasy blog are two busy to sign up?

I smell conspiracy!

The Unofficial SDMB Fantasy Baseball League, now starting it’s third season, has an opening. We are a 5x5 league with rotisserie scoring using players from both leagues. We conduct an email draft. The league ID (using Yahoo! Fantasysports) is 15090 and the ID is Cecil.

The league constitution and other historical league data can be seen on the league site.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Zev Steinhardt

Zev, I’ve grabbed that opening. I’ll drop you an email as well. Team name is Jersey City Skeeters.

Welcome aboard Wilson. Glad to have you in this league too (as you’re already in my OOTP league!).

I would love to get in this leauge. Is there still space??

But Thursdays at 3pm PDT are not good for me. After 6pm PDT would be perfect!

The Melting Pot league has two empty slots (right at the moment, actually, there are three, but one has been claimed). It’s going to be a Keeper League, but this is the first year, so here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor. Nine teams, AL only.

The league ID is 16463, the password is fondue. We’ve got an LJ community - MeltingPotBBall that has all the player and stat info (you don’t need an LJ to view the community).

There’s plenty of space, spooje. We can move the draft up, but there may be objections. Go ahead, sign up, and post an annoucement on the league board to see if there are any problems with bumping the draft up a couple hours (but please note that 6pm PDT is 9pm for us goofy east coasters/Hoosiers).

Still some spots left. Fatwater Fewl, are you out there? We have 15, 16 would be a nice round number.

And I also need some advice for another league. It’s a keeper money league, and I have no idea if I want in. First off, the stats. Oh, the stats. It boils down to a 16x13 league.

That’s right, 29 stat categories.

It’s points-based, not rotisserie, 10 teams. Here’s last year’s roster for the team I would inherit (C, C, 1, 2, 3, SS, 4 OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P):

I. Rodriquez
R. Hernandez
T. Helton
L. Castillo
T. Batista
R. Furcal
A. Jones
J. Payton
T. Nixon
Mondesi
V. Guerrero
J. Rollins
E. Young
R. Palmeiro
R. Klesko

D. Lowe
A. Pettitte
K. Foulke
D. Marte
J. Vazquez
R. Ortiz
M. Morris
K. Wells
J. WEaver
O. Dotel

Obviously, I’m keeping Vlad and Helton. What about the third? I’m thinking either Ivan Rodriquez or Vazquez. Or not even joining the league because there are so many damned categories.

Hey guys, first let me say that my trip got pushed back, and I’ll be able to make the draft, so I signed up (I’m #15)…and I can’t wait for the season to start.

Second, Munch, it makes a difference not knowing the point system. I’ve been in a point league for several years, and they can be really fun…at least for stat-geeks like me.

Anyway, in a 2 catcher league, it would be hard not to keep Ivan, but I’d almost lean more toward Vazquez…given the run support he should get, and his high K totals, and the fact that most of the best pitchers are probably going to be keepers on other’s rosters, and you’re already keeping 2 bats, he’d probably be my choice. But again, it really depends on the point system.

Good luck.

OK, I’m in. (the Svengalis, woohoo!!!)

I’ve played fantasy baseball before, but I’ve never participated in a live draft. I will need instruction…

Can we push back the time to 6PM, pacific time??? Pleeaassee???

We need three more teams in the Melting Pot keeper league. Get in on the ground floor! This is the FIRST year this will be a keeper. See above for login info.

spooje, everything is set up. How’s 5:45 PST work for you? If not, you can predraft. We shouldn’t get too many picks in the first 15 minutes, and we’ll ask people to go slow to wait up for you should you not be available until 6:00 sharp.

As for a live draft, it’s extremely easy. Yahoo has a very intuitive set-up.

First, I would recommend pre-drafting. It’ll get you aware of the players and their eligible positions, as well as get your priorities in order in terms of who you want. When you’re in the draft, you can easily switch between your list and the Yahoo list.

There are also tabs of “All”, “1B”, “2B”, etc. (every position and category) to see who’s still available. For instance, if it’s Round 11 and you desperately need a backup secondbaseman, you just click on the 2B tab, and you have everyone left.

When someone is drafted, their name grays out, and the team who drafted them appears next to their name. There’s also a roster next to the master list, that shows you who you have drafted, and what their positions are.

Ultimately, I would recommend you do two things: (1) predraft and (2) sign up for a public league live draft (get in a casual league if you don’t intend to stay active, please). That way, you’ll be able to see how effective your predraft list is (you can transfer your list to all your leagues), and you can see how the draft applet works and interfaces.

Let me/us know if you have any other questions.

I joined. (Dry Heaves). I haven’t played fantasy baseball in a few years. The draft time is perfect for me. 5:45 pst.

Hey, Winnowill, I’d love to try a keeper leauge…i’ve never done AL only, but with only nine teams, it shouldn’t be that hard. Let me know if you’d like me to sign up.
