We had a different roster size in year 2 because of the mock draft screwup thing so they wouldn’t be directly comparable.
I know it’s probably just because I’m so used to yahoo’s layout, but geez I hate the way espn lays out the fantasy league overview page. The other pages aren’t so bad, but the overview is just awful. (And that’s the page I use the most.)
While comparing yahoo and espn pages side by side I noticed that the espn league has 3 WRs compared to only 2 for the yahoo league.
Ah, ESPN has the correct (based on our first year) setup, but I imported last year’s rules into yahoo’s league. I’ll fix it.
Draft is tomorrow. I recommend going to ESPN.com and doing a mock auction draft to get familiar with the software and make sure it works.
Exactly what time do we need to log in by to ensure our auction goes according to plan?
The league draft was cancelled last year because LOUNE didn’t accept his invitation to the league in time (which he said he would do - twice. I took all the blame, though :p. I think he was at work where he could log into here but not espn.com), not because people weren’t logged in. An hour before the draft rolls around and it sees “hmm, league only has 11 people and 12 slots, cancel the draft”… I’m pretty sure we’re all set now and if someone didn’t log in it would just autodraft for them.
Can’t believe it’s draft time already. Looks like a I have a few hours of research to do between now and 8:00 PM.
Are the settings on the league’s Yahoo page up to date? 4 for passing TDs, -1 for INTs, etc.? I don’t recall what settings we used last year.
ETA: Never mind, forgot I could check the previous years’ settings. We’re good.
Yep, we’ve always pretty much used the default scoring. I’d rather use the all-pro scoring system but when I asked about it up thread no one seemed to care.
I’d rather change it as well. Too late now, but hopefully next year we can get a campaign going early.
Oh, and if I may ask an impertinent question of Ellis Dee: will you once again be relying solely on Jets and Giants, or shall it be a more traditional strategy this year? Or will I have to wait and see? I only ask because I want to know how much thought I should put into the prices I’m willing to pay for those players.
IMO you should bid $150 on Eli Manning and see what happens.
Has ESPN adjusted their values so far? I’m assuming Favre since he unretired would actually be listed and cost more than $1 in value. Do they make those adjustments? Do they base them on actual drafts and what happens in the world. Or do they just stick with what they had at the beginning.
I ask because I’m wondering how reliable their values are.
I’m actually on the fence on this point because an all-NY team would be quite weak at WR and QB this year. Defenses would be great, but when your premiere game winner is defense, you’re pretty much screwed. Especially with default scoring. I really like having an all-NY team, though.
I ended up telling myself to wait and see how the draft goes and decide during the auction itself.

I set us up for free agent acquisition budgets for a waiver/free agent system this year.
Yahoo now supports automatically putting all players on waivers from Sunday to Tuesday to do what we did manually - prevent the first person to their computer when a player goes down from getting their backup and instead giving everyone a chance to make a claim. The difference in this case is that it’s built in to the yahoo system, and we’re using a silent auction style bidding system for players. You start with $100 + whatever money you had left at the end of the draft. In the event that there’s a tie, there’s also a rolling waiver list that works like a standard list where you get sent to the back every time it resolves an issue. Having no other real criteria, I also set the initial waiver priority list by the amount of money people had left after the draft, and in the case of a tie, reverse nomination order. The issue should rarely come up, though as there won’t be that many ties.
There’s one catch with this system. Since Thursday and Saturday night games fall outside of the Sunday 1pm-EST till Tuesday night automatic waiver period, a player could conceivably pick up a breakout performer from the those games before the Sunday till Tuesday waiver period. This goes against our system, so I’m creating a rule regarding this: If you want to pick up a free agent from a Thursday or Saturday night game after that game has begun, you have to wait until Sunday at 1pm EST and put in a waiver claim like the rest of the free agents. Premature pickups will be reverted.
