I can’t believe how close these games were this week. Four different matchups came down to Monday night. And Omni’s Ol’ Shermans got their first win of the season. Congrats
I hung close and yet have two players giving me goose eggs. Next week will be fun.
Holy shit. That was the worst loss ever. Our game was decided by a fucking special teams fumble!
I’m now 4 games out of first despite having scored 119 or more in every game but one. That’s amazing. But anyway, I’m now officially in next year mode. Come and get Diggs, Kareem Hunt, Rams D, and Fournette - but bring lots of young talent and/or draft picks.
I opened the league page today and noticed I am projected at 75 points and Jules is projected at 150. I haven’t swapped out my bye starters yet (mostly Josh Allen) but I don’t think it’s going to really make a difference if I do.
We love a good reverse jinx in this house, for sure. In the grand scheme of things, I don’t think this week’s matchup between us has much importance beyond bragging rights. It does very much seem like the playoffs are already set, which is bizarre to think so early in the season. It will be interesting if any of the middle pack of teams can separate and make a run.
I miss the good old days when I was really into fantasy and beat you like 76 times in a row but you have definitely overtaken me by a healthy margin the last few years. It would normally be pretty dramatic to have a 6-0 team face another 6-0 team, but one having to start Geno Smith takes a lot of the hype out of it.
Optimizing my roster got me up to a reasonable 115 projection but I think the 24% projection is probably generous.

I didn’t really register what you meant when I read this the first time, but scraping the scores just now, when I grabbed dale’s I found it shocking. Then remembered your post. I’ve never seen anything like it. Here’s a screenshot:
The right side with the potential is what threw me. ALL zeros on the bench, plus an extra zero as a starter for good measure. That’s just brutal.
EDIT: I was also curious as to why it only shows 20 entries for dale’s team. Apparently my program ignores players on a bye because it identifies players by checking for a numerical value in the points column. I suppose I could kludge in an extra IsNumeric(x) or x = “Bye” but meh.
My team is just woeful this year. I’d say that I’m ready to throw in the towel, but that decision was clearly made for me before the season even began. All I can really do is hope to steal a win or two from some of the better teams and maybe knock someone out of a playoff spot.
Even that’s unlikely, but it’s all I’ve got.
TRADE TO ANNOUNCE:
Nine Inch Neils Receives:
Jerry Jeudy, WR, Den
Jameson Williams, WR, Det
Miles Sanders, RB, Phi
Eno Benjamin, RB, Ari
HungryHungryHaruspex receives:
Stefon Diggs, WR, Buf
Cordarrelle Patterson, RB, Atl
Tyler Higbee, TE, LAR
Surprised nobody has reacted to this one yet. I will miss Diggs, and he’s only 28 do he probably has another five good years left.
However, I see Chris Olave turning into a very similar player despite much worse QB play right now, and Jeudy has all the tools to be a star when Russell Wilson remembers how to cook. Williams has tons of question marks, most notably “can Goff support another WR?” But he might be Justin Jefferson and you need stars to win this league, not just solid producers.
Jules wanted Njoku, but he’s only 26 and I wasn’t going to give him away when he finally came good after three years as a wasted roster spot. Higbee always gets lots of targets but never does anything with them, and I expect the Rams will be blowing up the offense after this season (they may have to just to get under the cap).
Patterson was lots of fun but he’s 31 and the Falcons already seem to be trying to move on. I never paid much attention to the Philly backfield but Sanders will do fine as a flex/bye week fill -in, and Benjamin is clearly the future in AZ.
Fournette (sniff), Kareem Hunt and most of my bench are still available. Only Herbert, Godwin and Najee are off limits, and heck, my objective brain might even see a way to parting with Godwin. I will be looking for a second QB as part of any trade.
I was off my computer all day yesterday so I’m just seeing this now, but I think Jules way overpaid for Diggs (as you said, Patterson is lots of fun but…).
But Jules also clearly wants to WIN NOW, so it’s probably a good move for him (though better for you in the long run).
I agree with you, I very clearly overpaid, and by any calculator I lost the trade easily. Sometimes, you have to be willing to do that for a specific reason. In this case, this was one of the last possible upgrades I could make without trading away a starter. I paid entirely with my bench.
Diggs is an every week start with his bye now used up, and he’s a noticeable upgrade for me. Easy enough. He’s also one of my favorite players and I never should have traded him away. That doesn’t mean anything, but it’s nice.
Patterson is very interesting. In Atlanta’s new rushing offense, he has a chance to be a league winner down the stretch. If you discount the game he played hurt and didn’t see many snaps, he’s in the top 8 in fantasy points per game. Even counting that half game, he’s 11th. The downside to him is, as mentioned, that he’s 31. He’s hurt, so maybe he’s showing his age, but he also only has 650 offensive touches in his career. Miles Sanders has more. Even if you count in the kick returns, Josh Jacobs has more career touches. He’s got a very cheap contract into next year, there’s no one else on that roster with any investment, so maybe he can stick around a bit into his 30s since he’s still absurdly efficient. I’m not counting on it, but it’s rare to find such elite performance at such a cheap price. If Atlanta keeps him next season, it’s fairly likely he could still be this efficient next year, too. That’s about as far as I’m looking right now.
To be fair, I don’t expect I’ll use Patterson aside from an injury or the occasional bye week. He’s a 4th RB for me. If I do see a significant injury, I don’t lose a ton of upside in the short term since Patterson scores so much per game. I also needed a backup TE for my bye week, and this frees up a roster spot.
Exactly right. I already established a 2-3 year window for this current roster, and this move makes that window even stronger.
It’s clear that Jules traded for Diggs to offset Josh Allen since I am obviously the most important person in this league and rosters should be constructed specifically to defeat me. I’m kind of flattered.
The McCaffrey trade is a big swing in our matchup. The timing was perfectly bad. If the trade was finalized on Tuesday, McCaffrey plays in this game and is probably not limited. If the trade was announced just a couple hours earlier, I could have easily swapped in Eno Benjamin and been fine. As it is, McCaffrey may not play, and I won’t know until the late games. I can swap in Jerry Jeudy, but his QB is hurt. Or I can risk D’Onta Foreman in the early games, but he plays the strongest run defense in the NFL with an uncertain workload.
Maybe CMC will steal a touchdown inside the 5 and it won’t matter. It’s just a weird way for a fantasy matchup to go awry
Sounds like he is likely to play at least to the extent he has learned the playbook.
Fantasy is so weird sometimes. As a 9ers fan I was excited to get CMC, but I immediately said “oh fuck” as a Jeff Wilson owner. Now Wilson wasn’t ever going to be a star, but he was definitely a serviceable RB who had a lock on the backfield.
Did you guys mean for this trade to go through before tomorrow morning?
I didn’t because everyone I’m getting is on bye or injured. I might need to use Jeudy this week, but if RNATB wanted to use him I wouldn’t oppose pushing it through since that is normally what we do
Makes no difference to me. I’d just leave it on Yahoo’s normal timeline.
In the event the trade occurs early in the week I usually approve it instantly, but when it’s within 48 hours of Sunday morning I usually try to ask what people intended to do for clarity since it may be assumed/miscommunicated that it was intended for the current week or not. Since neither want it pushed through in this case I’ll just let it automatically pass at 48 hours.
