Nobody should want to play me right now. With Rashee Rice back and Rachaad White temporarily usable, I am tough to beat.
Sorry I wasn’t tuned in on this discussion last week but figure I’ll make an unhelpful comment now.
I’m a night owl and when I can sleep in, I do. This means I have an unfortunate habit of getting bit in the ass by late scratches. I don’t know that this has cost me many games since my team is perennially terrible, but I’ve absolutely taken unnecessary zeros as a result. I simply never thought to press the issue since it was my mistake. I’m sure I’m not alone on that.
Two thoughts.
- I dislike the fact that this feels like a squeaky wheel situation. Games (or at least tie breakers) have probably been affected by this over the years, maybe even this season, but there’s no way to retroactively apply this to all players.
- This rule does seem non-problematic in its application, and as an occasional victim to the late scratch, odds are good that I will profit from it before too long.
On a separate topic, kind of amazing that me and @RetroVertigo are last and second to last in scoring but have combined for 7 wins.
You’re right that there may have been people who were eligible in the past but never asked for it and that’s somewhat unfair, but I think going forward it’s a solid rule that everyone can be aware of. If I happen to notice it when it happens I’ll point it out.
I’ll point out that we’ve always had a rule that says you can declare a conditional start in the thread BEFORE the games in the event that you’re unable to set your roster before the game. People rarely take advantage of it but we’ve always done it. You can essentially say “if so and so is inactive, I want this player starting in that WR slot instead” and then I’ll make the switch if that player ends up being inactive. That’s just in case someone is unavailable during the window before a game when they won’t be able to set their roster or check injury status. It’s come in handy a few times over the years, but it’s rarely used so people may forget about the option.
After Ellis and Petey beat me by small margins, Hamlet is now 7-1 and in first place. Which is pretty unexpected. And good. I like when teams that aren’t regular contenders have a good year and break into contending.
In fact, midwest, the weakest division for the last few years, has the two highest scorers right now. Great Old Ones is #2 in scoring even though he’s been unlucky in H2H and only turned that into a 4-4 record.
RNATB actually has the third highest score right now and also unluckily that has resulted in a 4-4 record.
But it’s early enough in the season that if they keep up the good performance they can both easily make a playoff run.
I think in Hamlet’s case it’s the reverse. He’s normally good; last year was the aberration. In fact, he won the championship in 2023.
I’ll glad for the win, but being 2-6 is rough.
I really thought I had a chance at contending, but this is starting to feel like a lost season at this point.
Stop talking about my season! As soon as my chances at another championship are talked about, it won’t happen! The Gods of Fantasy Football find ways to punish hubris. So shut up!
I’m rooting for Hamlet to win this year. I think his team can do it. In fact I think it’s unavoidable at this point. His is the team of destiny.
Damn you @SenorBeef!!!
Petey has the third highest score. I’m fourth (but second in points against).
I’m only one game out of the wild card now which is amazing considering I started 1-4, but my remaining schedule is pretty tough.
Well that didn’t take long. The Gods have punished me for my hubris by taking away Travis Hunter to IR. I was really excited to have him for the second half of this year, and, of fucking course, he goes to IR. Right after I trade for him.
Happy now @SenorBeef?
Why would that make me happy? I’m rooting for you to win it all. I think you’re still going to.
Well that’s just mean.
I’m having really bad luck with Thursday night games the last few weeks:
-2.0 Week 7: DEF: Steelers
0.00 Week 8: WR2 Quentin Johnston, WR, LAC
1.40 Week 9: RB2 Ollie Gordon, RB, Mia
------
-0.60
I suppose it all evens out, since in week 6 Saquon only put up 7.70 but I got a solid 30.00 out of Skattebo. *sobs*
I wanted to take stock on my state of my team since this was such a critical, franchise-altering season. I was really aggressive trying to rebuild my team in a single season while staying competitive so I didn’t crash out. Normally, it takes a couple seasons of getting crushed while stockpiling picks and hoping a lottery ticket or two cashes in. In hindsight, I was probably too aggressive. I overpaid for Jeanty, for example. I didn’t stick to my board and madee some questionable draft picks. But, I just don’t like the idea of bottoming out. If I finished this season 11-3, I would pass Stringer for the highest all-time win percentage in the league. I think I let that tempt me too much. I just don’t think I managed this draft very well, at all. However, it isn’t like things went catastrophically. I like my team a lot. I went from the oldest starting roster to the youngest in a single season. I still have picks next year, so I didn’t empty the cupboard. And my team is still competitive despite being so young, even though this hasn’t been a very lucky season.
A simple way to look at relative rosters is that we’re in a 12-team league, so all things being equal, everyone should have a top-12 player at QB, RB, WR, and TE. Then everyone should have someone at each position from 13-24, someone from 25 to 36, etc. If you have two of the top 12 at a position, or three of the top 24, you’re ahead of the game.
I have three of the top 12 WRs by consensus dynasty value, two of the top 12 RBs, and the #1 overall TE. My weakest spot is QB (15th), but Dak is a top 5-7 QB this season, at least. And he is in his early 30s, so he has a few years left with some elite offensive players around him. These things are fluid, so it really is just a snapshot of this moment, but at the moment it looks pretty good.
Losing two games by a combined 0.55 points probably sunk my season. I’m currently 5th, but I’m not really a threat for the wild card. Winning the division is my only shot at the playoffs, but unfortunately, Ellis has a game on me and about a 70 point advantage in points scored.
Jules has a lot more players still to go, of course, but the current score is Peteys 136 Jules 19.70
Hamlet is likely to lose, I’m likely to win, so that would put me tied for best record again
RNATB is currently ahead of Ellis
I really need either you or Petey to lose at least 3 games over the rest of the season that have a realistic shot at the wild card. (If you could both lose 3 that would be super.)
No deal
Not my finest week, but on the plus side no real glaring mistakes. I had some high scores on the bench, but they were from guys who had been doing quite poorly and deserved to be benched. I guess it was just the other guys turn to have an off day.
Except Puka. Seems like he always shines.
Tucker Kraft is likely done for the season, which means my season is likely done as well. (I’m also in bye week hell next week and have to play The Great Old Ones, arguably the hottest team in the league over the past four weeks.)
