SDMB FF Dynasty League: Year Two

I see no utility in redrafting if I have to pick the same players.

Well, with the exception of Retro and Warner’s in the first round.

The QB competition really hasn’t been decided, but I think it will be Leinart. The Cards open against the Rams, so that should be an easy test for him. The Cards have their bye week in week 6 which will come after difficult games at San Diego and at home against New Orleans.

I do feel like I got screwed, however I can see why someone would say that its my own fault, and that is why I haven’t raised a stink. I did go through and rank my top 36 players (I only had three picks), and had no clue about the auto-draft filling open slots first.

I have no problem drafting again (:)), but completely understand if we don’t.

Nothing against RetroVertigo and dalej but I think the redraft is a horrible idea. Wilson got even more fucked by the autodraft in HHM a couple of years ago and ended up autodrafting six second-string quarterbacks*, and all we did was give him waiver priority.

Yeah, keep dreaming, boyo. Actually, if I needed QB help, Romo + Manningham for Smith seems like a good deal. Except I don’t.

*I don’t mean second-string in fantasy terms. I mean second string on their own teams.

I always pay attention to the Cardiac’s since they were my first team (St. Louis). I feel Leinart will be starting week one after his last performance, however I think that coaching staff will pull him at the first chance.

You didn’t speak up about not being able to attend the draft, but that’s okay, it happens. The important thing is that you pre-ranked your whole draft. There was a chance I couldn’t make it to the draft and I’d have done the same thing - and I probably wouldn’t have remembered the auto-draft issue, and so I’d have only been saved by not having an empty roster slot. I feel like you made a reasonable effort to participate in the draft only to have been screwed by an unforseen fluke. I don’t personally think you were negligent, although this is just one more reason to always attend the draft live.

So if other people agree, it just becomes a matter of how this is rectified. Waiver priority and/or extra draft picks next year are relatively problem free although it doesn’t help you much this year. A redraft has its own problems, where since you’ll pick a player that was later picked by someone else, that person would have a shot at stealing someone that went earlier than the expected whereas other people whose picks were unchanged would be forced into their original pick. That is, if we follow my proposed rule regarding that. If we didn’t, then it’d be a free for all, although it would kinda suck that everyone already tipped their hand.

So I don’t know. I certainly don’t want to leave it as is, since I don’t feel like you deserved what happened to you, and hence, it’s an injustice.

I vote we just pick a figure to add to each of their waiver budgets. $25?

I’m pretty sure I mentioned earlier in the thread when I saw the changed draft date.

I’m fine with not doing a redraft. I hope I never have to wake up and find that I spent a first round pick on a defense again! I’ll just consider it to be a random act. I f we would have had the draft on Saturday, I probably still would have missed it due to storms causing my power to go out that night.

So can I get redress for missing the first 6 rounds of last year’s draft? I’d say I got just as screwed…

  1. (8) Brian Westbrook
  2. (17) Steven Jackson
  3. (29) Pierre Thomas
  4. (44) Tony Romo
  5. (53) Antonio Gates
  6. (68) Antonio Bryant

Did you pre-rank!?

I’m eating my words right now.

Here is a story I just read. Here’s another

The Cardinals aren’t the Yankees and they don’t have reporters trying to stir things up for the sake of stirring things up.
This is going to get a lot more interesting.

I don’t think a redraft would be the worst thing in the world, but I’m lukewarm at best about it, for logistical reasons (getting everyone together to do it again), aesthetic reasons (a do-over just feels weird as long the draft isn’t a total loss), and complexity reasons (one of the draft picks has already been traded; are we rolling that back as well?).

Off the top of my head, my preferred remedy would be to give both **dale **and **Retro **a “sandwich” pick in next year’s draft. They give these out in baseball as compensation for losing certain types of players to free agency. They’re just picks that come between Rounds 1 and 2. Technically, for our purposes, they would be the first two picks of Round 2 and then the rest of the draft would be pushed back two picks. It wouldn’t be hard to set up, though I believe they’d each have to exchange they’re final non-keeper draft pick in the process to make the numbers work. The problem with giving them picks in the middle of the 1st Round next year is that, in that case, not everyone pays the same amount to rectify the problem, as the folks at the back of the 1st Round pay most of the cost.

Just to me, doing a redraft seems like a little too much, and adding money to their FAABs seems like not enough. Thoughts?

I was going to raise that very point, that giving them the #3 and #6 picks in next year’s draft as extra punish the people that go behind them but not the ones that go in front. Compensatory picks at the end of round 1 sounds reasonable - everyone gets their first pick, and then everyone is pushed equally far back into the draft afterwards.

Maybe we could do that in addition to some extra FAAB dollars. Those can be significant - there’s always a significant breakout player that no one expects, even in deep leagues.

Is it even possible to set another draft date for the league, or would we have to hold it in the thread? I guess there’s not really an elegant way to do this hat won’t endsup screwing over other people. Bah, there’s no good solution here.

I don’t wanna be the piss in the vinegar here, but the solution is to show up for the stupid draft. Pre-ranking has always been rife with problems and it’s never been considered a adequate substitute for actually drafting your team. It’s a half-measure at best. That players didn’t know the nuances and idiosyncrasies of Yahoo’s flawed auto-draft algorithm isn’t some great injustice that needs to be rectified.

Had these players had their computer explode mid-draft I might feel differently, but we’ve been doing this for nearly a decade and throughout that time there have always been issues with autodrafts whether they were temporary connection issues or goofy AI issues ignoring pre-rankings. The solution, as always, is to be present for the draft. We had 11 or 12 people who carved out the time on a Sunday night and most of those people have 2 or 3 more drafts in the coming days, let’s not throw out the baby with the bathwater here and compromise things for the majority who already gave their time for the draft.

Sorry you all got screwed because you didn’t slot your players into the lineup before the draft, it sucks, hopefully it’ll be a lesson so no one has it happen to them next year. Sorry if I sound cold-hearted or something, but I’m completely baffled why you guys think this is so different from the 50 other teams through the years that got ass-raped by the computer. It’s a fact of fantasy football.

I just want to point out that the draft date got changed less then a week before, to the night of a live draft of mine. Also I don’t think it was a player slotting issue (I could be wrong), short of picking up a kicker before the end of last season just to fill out my roster.

Thinking about it more, I think a redraft would be unnecessary.

I think the only fair solution is for somebody to go kneecap CJ Spiller.

I want to commend RetroVertigo and dalej42 for not being douchebags about it also. I feel terrible that these guys got jobbed but a complete redraft doesn’t feel right.

Increased FAAB this year and compensatory picks next year?

This plan gets my vote.
