SDMB got me fired!

Today, my boss pulls me aside, takes me to HR, and informs me that because of excessive use of the internet, my employment is to be terminated effective immediately.

I’d be on the boards all day - and yet I was one of three productive employees (there are a total of seven employees).

Hehehehe. Ah well. It was a sucky job anyway. Customer service might not be my cup of cake.

SDMB - 1
Pragmatism - 0

WRS

That sucks, sorry to hear it.

I’m surprised it didn’t happen sooner. (To anyone, not you specifically, WeRSauron.)

Hey, I hear the Chicago Reader is hiring.

Happy

Yikes!

It could happen to a lot of us, I imagine - good luck on finding employment at a firm that has a IT department with better things to do than spying on employees.

[Nitpick] You got yourself fired, the SDMB was just the tool by which you did so. [/nitpick]

Get a job where you don’t have the time to get online. That will cure that problem right away. Maybe this will be motivation to find a job that suits you well anyway – here’s to hoping!

OR…

get a job where you can get paid to surf message boards. hmmmm…

So wait, let me get this straight.

You spent company time perusing the boards and was fired as a result?

You should sue, dude.

I wonder what your legal grounds would be?

But your honor I’m an addict…
They send me e-mails and weblinks…
I try to stay away but…
but…
…but

It’s Cecil’s fault

Oh, sorry I thought im2evil was talking about sueing the SDMB.

Obviously not.

You don’t get to decide. Sorry. It’s your bosses job to decide what you are supposed to do, and your job to convince him that you are, in fact, doing that thing.

Later in life you my find yourself telling someone, "But I really love you! I love you the most!!!’ And you’ll find out you don’t get to make that call, either.

You sound like you’re gonna get over this okay, though.

That’s pretty harsh coming from Jesus. Aren’t you supposed to be some free love hippy?

You didn’t follow the rules.

Weirdly enough, I just posted these whimsical SDMB rules the night before.

So, what’s the next job you’ll be getting fired from?

WeRSauron wins.

Esprix

I see nothing wrong with not doing your work and surfing the internet all day.

The key is not to get caught.

Wins what? And what if he’s not prepared?

Balls.

I don’t know specifically what OP did but he said customer service. That’s what I do, and I’m one of the top three performers in my department. I consistently have stellar stats and lead the department in moneys collected. I also spend all day online. Productivity and web surfing are not mutually exclusive.

If my boss wasn’t the coolest dude around, I would have been fired for spending all day here a long time ago!

I sometimes wonder how I keep this job.

How is Rap like Porn? Both are better with the sound turned off.

Well, at least you have a good excuse for leaving this job when you go to your next job interview:

“The reason for my termination was that I was caught fighting ignorance on a worldwide level.”

Of course, you could always do what I did and get a job IN the IT department.

Then you could spend the day spying on everyone else’s web traffic while surfing the boards.

That was Jesus 1.0. Jesus 2.0 has been redesigned to be leaner and meaner, in order to be competitive in the new economy.

I still prefer my Jesus 1.8i hydrogen powered sports car. I haven’t yet worked out what the rubber hose coming from the dashboard is for though.
