Today, my boss pulls me aside, takes me to HR, and informs me that because of excessive use of the internet, my employment is to be terminated effective immediately.
I’d be on the boards all day - and yet I was one of three productive employees (there are a total of seven employees).
Hehehehe. Ah well. It was a sucky job anyway. Customer service might not be my cup of cake.
It could happen to a lot of us, I imagine - good luck on finding employment at a firm that has a IT department with better things to do than spying on employees.
[Nitpick] You got yourself fired, the SDMB was just the tool by which you did so. [/nitpick]
Get a job where you don’t have the time to get online. That will cure that problem right away. Maybe this will be motivation to find a job that suits you well anyway – here’s to hoping!
You don’t get to decide. Sorry. It’s your bosses job to decide what you are supposed to do, and your job to convince him that you are, in fact, doing that thing.
Later in life you my find yourself telling someone, "But I really love you! I love you the most!!!’ And you’ll find out you don’t get to make that call, either.
You sound like you’re gonna get over this okay, though.
I don’t know specifically what OP did but he said customer service. That’s what I do, and I’m one of the top three performers in my department. I consistently have stellar stats and lead the department in moneys collected. I also spend all day online. Productivity and web surfing are not mutually exclusive.
