Put me down for the twin blade Gillette. I tried buying generic blades for it once, but tossed the crappy little things out after the second stroke of the razor. Would have been the first, but I couldn’t believe the things were actually that bad. I’ve contemplated trying the triple blade, but I can’t believe the price difference is worth it, unlike the price difference between the Sensor blades and the generic copies.
Mach III handle with Mach III Turbo blades. Great shave, even though I have a pretty pathetic beard, and don’t shave more than 3 times a week, tops.
Blade, definitely. An old-fashioned double-edged safety razor, actually. It combines the best features of straight razors and those new-fangled cartridge contraptions. Electric razors are about as effective on my face as a sponge.
I use a Mach III but I have never tried an electric razor so I can’t say which I prefer. I don’t like shaving in the shower thou, it seems to stick to my face and feels funny.
Yep, Mach III is the best. Electric never gets as close.
Safety razor, after soaping up (post-shower) with my brush and mug of Burma-Shave.
Which brand do you use, Ukulele? I find Mach III the best because it’s got three razors - it gets my face as smooth as a baby’s bottom!

Just wanted to say I’m glad I’m not the only Bonzo Dog Band fan - no one else I know likes them. I’ve got the 3 CD set. Love those lyrics… “through the holes in your string vest”!

If I’m in a mind to be shaving every day I go with a Norelco wet/dry cordless doohickey, but I’ve found the shave is better dry even if it’s a little less comfortable. But I’ve yet to have a “perfect” shave with an electric.
Otherwise I just go with me trusty, ancient Trac II in the shower every 2-3 days. It requires a lot less contortions of the face to get the job done, and the risk of getting nicks & scratches from older blades feels oh-so manly.
Electric’s just don’t do the job.
I used Atra for a long time. I switched to Mach III earlier this month. The razor gives a a very smooth, close and comfortable shave.
Yes, the blades are hideously expensive [$2/each] but I have been using the same Mach III blade for 3 weeks, at least 20 shaves. I was lucky to get 10 from the Atras.
I wasn’t sure about the Mach III, remember the old SNL Triple Trac commercials. But it seems to do the job well.
Blade.
Mach III. Best blade I’ve ever used.
I used to use a blade, but I kept cutting myself with it. I still have the marks on my face, in fact. But I gave up shaving altogether when God spoke to me in a vision.
Electric. Blades hurt too much.
'nother mug and brush guy checking in. I use Gillette Sensor or a knock off brand. Each drug store near here has its own knock off, and one is good and one sucks rocks, and after all this time I can’t remember which is which. So I buy them at whichever shop I’m in during the time of need, and swear that next time I will Write it Down…sheesh, what a dope. I also wish I could get blades without the ^#%@$ “lubricating strip”…
Mug soap is awesome, I will never go back to canned cream. I used to buy various expensive types (body shop etc) but now I get unwrapped bars of olive oil soap from the health food store for $1.50…each one lasts about 9 months and works better than anything else I have tried. I keep exhorting friends and coworkers to switch to mug soap, but they just back away slowly and hide the pointy objects…
I was toying with the idea of using a straight razor, and actually spawned a thread on the topic, but the response was weak and Scylla talked me out of it. Well, him and my barber, who said, “Shit. You can really hurt yourself with one of those. How alert are you in the mornings?” Point taken. No straight razor for me.
However he did give me a really good piece of advice which has not been mentioned here yet that I can see. Keep your razor blade immersed in baby oil when not in use. They don’t wear from your face, they wear from the air. Keep the oxygen off 'em and they stay sharp. Once I started doing this my blade life went up 4-5x.
I use an electric. Two, actually. I have a Norelco Advantage (the one with it’s own built-in lotion dispenser!) that I use in the shower. I also have a Norelco dry electric that I use less often. When I use the dry electric, I also use the Remington Face-Saver. It’s a talcum powder stick thingie that you rub over your face and use your hands to spread the powder around and into your whiskers. This helps the electric glide over your dry face more easily and gives me a better, closer shave than without the powder. I definitely recommend this to anyone who shaves with a dry electric razor.
Baby oil? Who needs baby oil when you can store your blade in a pyramid? Don’t you know that a pyramid keeps a blade sharp forever?
And my blade is living proof. Still sharp after all these years. And I never have to buy blades.
[sub][sup]And I doubt my beard has anything to do with it.[/sup] [/sub]
Yet another vote for the Mach 3. I was a Sensor Excel guy for a number of years (Gillette mailed me a free one for my 18th birthday, so they hooked me early in my shaving career), but then I gave Mach 3 a shot and it was, by far, the best shave I’ve ever had with a blade. Never any irritation, never any razor burn, so well worth the added cost. But for those who don’t have sensitive skin, Sensor Excel would be all you need.
Gilette Sensor Excels. First started shaving with an electric (it was a gift) but it died and I didn’t want to buy another. Blades are A-OK by me (my wife loves Edge shaving cream smell, too)
I favor abstinence, in this matter.
Tris
Seems the preference for blades vastly outweighs the preference for electrics. I wonder how much of this was passed on from father to son (my dad used an electric, too)? I admit I’ve been surprised by the results thus far. I expected a closer vote.
