SDMB is simply a safe place ...

… in/at which to exchange ideas with some other bta intelligences with fingers. That’s why I’m here, how about you?

SDMB is safe because ultra-fervent expressions of personal animosities towards the proclivities and personalities of others are consigned to Pittdom and fervent expressions of political and religious witnessing are relegated to GD, all, under the unbiased eye of mods, our sergeants-at- arms.

And GQ is our altar for honest questions laid upon in hope of honest answers to everyday challenges and curiosities. Sometimes it takes but 5 minutes to put someone’s mind to rest, to put his life in order and make him (in his humble mind) worthy of sofatime. A very useful service and one my uncle [del]Lenin[/del] Cecil both endorse.

I could go on but you get the idea. Film critics to idle hypothesizers about anything are welcome here. Just be nice.

So, how can I be nice?

WAKE THE FUCK UP!

We’re running out of Oil. Fifty years from there will be no USA.

What will your grandchildren be doing?.

Just asking.

Mods, please move this to the most relevant area of discussion.

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

I’m pretty sure that fifty years from now we’ll be fine. I’ll be in a senior center somewhere annoying my children with regular phone calls and annoying my grandchildren with five dollar birthday checks.

Given that I’m 69, I’m sure WE will.

If you play your cards right now, in 50 tears, you might be sitting round the family hearth trading stories with who’ll ever listen.

I’ll probably regret asking this, but where is the USA going? What’s going to happen to it?

Shucks. You’ll be dead before you can be proven wrong.

If I play my cards right I’ll have a nice senior center to live in.

WTF? I thought there was a rule about posting while drunk?

Did you watch Earth 2100 again???

The USA is a political construct which attempts to impose uniform “national” concerns on numerous bio-regions and local cultures to the detriment of all. Without oil, the USA does not exist.

And what explains your post?

OK. If that’s how you’re defining it, I’ll take that as your definition.

You skipped a few steps there. What does the oil have to do with the political construct?

Image your living room without petroplastic. Pretty 19th century if it’s anything like mine. Where’s my carpet and tv?

Wrong forum.
Wrong tone.

Closed.

I have also reported this thread to the ATMB mods in case they would prefer to move it elsewhere and re-open it.

This might be Pit-ty.

You misspelled “pitiful”.

Good choice. Thanks.

Well, Old-timer, maybe you can help me. Did the United States exist in the 19th century?

You don’t depend on oil for your electricty. And while your TV might be made of plastic manufactured from petrochemical feedstock today, who says it has to be made out of plastic? It’s not like there’s a law of physics that says TV cases have to be made out of plastic.

We’re running out of whales! Nantucket’s economy and US readiness depend on a secure whale supply.

You stole my line.

Also to point and laugh at - adhay’s implication that there are no other countries that make things out of plastic.

Well, how did I get here?
