I think Clinton could have given a much better answer to the last question. “Your kids are all right” was kind of lame. Instead, she could have used it to make right her “gaffe” about deplorables, saying something like this:
And yes: the moderators were boss. Poor Trump, not being able to intimidate the moderators into silence.
Just want to share this amusing recap of the debate on WaPo’s website.
“Orange is your color Hillary. I notice you don’t have any orange on you tonight.”
“Keep your hands off me, Donald.”
The 3:1 sounded whiny, but Martha Raddatz did little or nothing to disguise her dislike of Trump, and actually started briefly debating him in one exchange (‘the military might not want secrecy for X reasons’, that’s fine to say if you are a participant in the debate…). I can’t see reasonable complaint about Cooper by normal standards (I don’t see much doubt who he is voting for having watched his show time to time, but if you’d only ever watched this debate, not as obvious).
And, I’m pretty sure Trump thinks he won this debate. He did do better than the first time , won’t face Republicans saying he did badly which seemed to be a significant factor getting him offtrack after the first one. I don’t think he’ll whine and pout about this debate in coming days, which was his biggest problem last time IMO.
However he didn’t clearly win, and has bigger problems than the debate.
And didn’t Donald complain that the moderators weren’t bringing up Hillary’s e-mails, immediately after they brought up her e-mails?!
The wandering around the stage, lurking, and looming over Clinton bugged me last night; in screencaps and photos this morning it’s really TERRIFYING.
Resting Karloff face.
Trump won because Pence didn’t jump ship after the debate? Priceless. I think that’s the point they are making, Trump slowed down the hemorrhaging so he won, never mind he’s still 3 quarts low.
Unfortunately, Trump’s dismissing his “locker room talk” as okay because it was only words…IE, I didn’t really do it. BS. Wait until Hillary starts parading women with orange stains on their crotch areas before the nation.
Unavision polled their viewers who won the debate: 92% Hillary, 8% Donald.
I don’t know the last time it was possible to win with the “Anglo” male vote, but Donald is definitely trying to prove they can still carry an election.
I noticed immediately, and found it really creepy. So did most women in my circle.
Breitbart headline in the Google news feed:
Trump’s Debate Win Propels Him Toward White House
Seriously. That’s really the headline.
To emphasize your point about engagement with the audience, when James Carter asked, “Do you believe you can be a devoted president to all the people in the United States,” Trump immediately started talking about, African Americans, Latinos, and inner cities, including how horrible inner cities are. I know it’s a surprise to some people, but all African Americans and Latino people don’t live in inner cities. (The notion that all inner cities are horrible is also wrong.)
When Clinton responded to the question, the first thing she did was call the questioner “Mr. Clark” by name, then she talked about trying to work together with everyone.
Wait, did Clinton get his name wrong, or did you?
I distinctly remember her correctly calling him “Mr. Carter,” because how could a Democratic presidential nominee mistake a guy whose name is “James Carter?”
ETA: There’s no “Clark” in the transcript.
See? The cover-up has begun!
Exactly. Here’s what two body language experts had to say:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/politics/2016-election/second-debate-body-language
Givens: “Trump’s constant pacing and restless movements around the stage attracted attention from Hillary’s words, and visually disrespected her physical presence on the stage, as in ‘I am big, you are small.’ ”
Wood: “He circles her during her turn. He is like a lion: going in with a biting attack, then keeping his attack energy going by continuing to move and circle.”
This really bothers me. On the rare occasions Trump speaks to African-Americans or Latinos, he promises to deliver them from the horrid squalor of their inner-city poverty. Yes, both groups have some economic disadvantages–but both groups also include plenty of working class folks with good jobs, lots of middle class & even some very rich. All these groups can be concerned about racism–but they also have issues shared with most other Americans.
And Trump lives in the “inner city.” Don’t New Yorkers need a fair amount of money nowadays to live in most of Manhattan? Lots of kids raised in the suburbs (& their empty-nester parents) prefer living “downtown”–which is possible in many cities.
I did. Sorry about that.
