Sounds yummy, Rhelle! I’ll be the one with the virgin strawberry margarita and the not sleepy newborn on my shoulder (sigh).
samalama, get down wit your bad self!! better slow down, you don’t want to wear yourself out your first day…
hill (who is still trying to get the hang of this bolding thing)
As many others said, any response that comes to my mind has already been posted. In fact, the same applies here but this thread seems to be one of the few where “Me too!” isn’t a waste of bandwidth.
I just discovered these boards a few weeks ago and have been devouring them ever since – or at least trying to, when the gods and hamsters are smiling. Even if I never hit the 100-post mark, I do want you to know how much I’m enjoying this community.
Hey guys! I guess I still count as a lurker, but I am less lurky lately. Yay for “me too” posts, and Rue threads where anything goes!
Rhelle,Great stuff. I got a great laugh out of that.
I lurked here for a long time before I joined. Then when I did start posting I got the “you have a low post count so your post is invisable” treatment. After that, I posted all the time, made a few friends a few of them were even in the elite SDMB club and started having a good time untill… the hacker struck and as a result most of my posts were lost. When the boards came back up and I started posting again I got the “you are invisable” treatment again so I said fuckit and went back to lurking, and been doin it ever since
I’m the world’s most profilic lurker!
And no, Yer posts aren’t invisible.
Kritter I’ve posted in threads (like this one!) where no one responds to my comment. But you know what? Sometimes later something I’ve said will be mentioned, surprising me. People pay attention, and remember. Lotsa smart peoples around here! When you say something meaningful, people will take note whether they mention it or not.
Been lurking since 1999 (started under a different username).
I don’t post mostly because of the work involved if I get into a debatable topic. Now I’ve got to research, and proofread, and …
The high standards keep me coming back and keep me from posting more often. Someday I’ll suck it up and quit being so lazy.
I lurk, therefore I am.
Too thin a skin, too little passion/zealotry.
Big lurker. Occasionally I will post but I actually prefer personal contact. I was shy at one point but I have developed into a fairly social person and do not crave anonymity like I once did. I like to see facial expressions and body language. It helps me to gauge how I should respond.
That being said I love this board. Everyone is clearly intelligent and thoughtful. I lurk to get new perspectives, ideas and usually a good laugh.
Noelq said it beautifully.
I came over here in the midst of /. and the LOTR mega-post (but NOT from /.)
I don’t post often because, frankly, everyone’s been around much longer then I have and they have a history (and language) I know nothing about (hackers? WAG? they bold user names?).
I also am not good with words. I’ve tried to begin a thread a couple times, with it ending badly because I just don’t know things! (And look! I used the ubiquitous and evasive word “thing!” I’m clearly not SDMB material.)
Yes, my mind has it’s moments of intelligence.
Just as I hit the post button, I realized what WAG stood for.
Go me!
I only registered in May last year, but I was a very on-again-off-again lurker for about two years before that. It was interesting to read now and then while killing time.
Now that I’m registered I spend waaaaay too much time reading the boards. And I still don’t post much. (0.34 posts per day average as of now - kind of pathetic, really).
Most of the time I just get to a thread too late, and what I wanted to say has already been said much more eloquently than I could. But I’ve been posting a little more often lately. Also, I now have a job that allows me to be on the internet fairly often.
Achren - I think the reason for bolding user names, is that with 30,000+ usernames out there, a lot of them aren’t obviously usernames when you’re reading a block of text. I think bolding usernames is handy, because it makes them stand out more so you can skim a thread and see them right away. Also, you know if someone is referring to a poster, or just saying something that resembles their name.
