Day 1:

It’s time to rise and shine all of you still sleeping off your weekend drinking binges. We’ve got a busy day ahead of us.

A Wedding Detail MMP

So, my cousin is getting married next Spring, and I’ve been charged with making the jewelry for the wedding party. I really enjoy making stuff of all kinds, and this isn’t really a great challenge. The designs she wants are very simple. But, I’ve been quite surprised at how difficult it has been to put together the list of everything that I need to order. Crystals and Pearls in 4 different colors plus findings (clasps, earring hooks and about 10 other little things). I’m still waiting for her to send me fabric swatches, so that I can make sure that I’m ordering the right colors. (Do you know how many different ‘pink’ crystals there are?) Still, I’m amazed at how quickly it all adds up to $. It’s been fun though to look through the possibilities.

Just as it was fun to go through the possibilities designing this game. <wicked evil laugh>
Usually the color does not affect the game.

The day starts now; it will end when…well, I could tell you, but what fun would that be? The Great and Powerful Og or an associate will announce night as it falls.

Don’t worry too much about it heck we don’t even need to go the rest of the season. Just put it up when you think about it.

As for the game, I haven’t quite figured out how the flexible days will effect the game. I figure last minute voting will disappear but these first random votes count much more. I’m going to hole off my first vote until tomorrow and will be voting for anyone who hasn’t posted first and secondly anyone who hasn’t voted.

I dislike random voting because it takes away accountability and if someone connectivity goes away with a random on the table the day could end before they can get back to change it.

So Blam what is your take on these variations?

Well, obviously it’s going to be crucial to get a vote on the table early. I’ll wait until tomorrow this time for all that Day 1 blah blah blah do we random I don’t know what do you think blah stuff, but as a rule I think we should be trying to all get a vote in the first day to give everybody time for discussion in the case of a minimal Day.

“Ah, I do so love to begin things. Is it not admirable, how simple things are in their beginnings?”

Unpredictable Nightfall: This is potentially tricky, because a) it might mean people don’t get a vote in and b) it gives scum an excuse not to get a vote in. On the other hand, it takes away any chance of end-game last-minute vote rushes. As we’re at the beginning of the game, our concern now should be with the risk that a Day ends with less than ten votes cast. The only suggestion I can offer is that we regard failure to get any vote in by the lower threshold of 48 hours as an anti-town move. I know there are various players who prefer to make judicious votes in the last 24 hours: this is your opportunity to display adaptability.

Also, if I interpret Rule 5 correctly, there is no such thing as a tie: it will take a minimum of two votes to put second place into the lead. Consequently, thinking about it, being vote leader will be an exceptionally precarious position. You could die at any time and you need a lot of help to get out of it. So, vote early, vote carefully…

Has the Day started yet?

I can quote minions too.

Oh, is mmouse9799 also helping to run the game? Any other secret mods you’re hiding?

Would it be worth entering into some discussion as to what roles signify a disruptive influence that is trying to bring the board down aka scum.
Admittedly this is a more or less closed game so we really don’t know much other than there are some scum out there with undefined powers and we can spend our lives guessing so this may be completely pointless

For what it is worth I divided the roles up by type.

NBC

We know from post 1 that Mark Wit is scum. He’s the one that accepted the challenge from a loyal Doper. Perhaps he’s the Godfather type, because he seemed to be in charge. (And if he is the Godfather, then we are likely to have a detective)

My other guess is that if there are Charter Members in this game, then they might be masons. Otherwise, there’s not much to go on.

Terry is a reference the Jerry, the tech guy. If he’s in the game and is scum, I’d be shocked. My guess is that either the alternate name people are townies, or a separate group with their own goal; if they’re in the game at all, that is.

Also, I’m not ready to lump the Moderators into the town pile just yet. It’s probably true, but considering the tenuous treatment of the mods, I’d put that into the pile with the feuder and Mafia player.

Pit Dweller might be a reference to the Other Place, in which case they’re scum. Junior mod, being a derogatory term, is probably also scum. So I’d put those to into a separate more likely than not to be scum pile.

Missed this on first read through: yeah, that seems likely.

It seems pretty obvious that a lot of these roles won’t be used. I doubt breaking them down early into pro-Town and anti-Town factions going to be of much use, unless we’re looking at doing a mass-reveal.

On that note, I’m a little leery of the mass reveal in a game with no Dusk time. We’ll certainly have objections (from both scum, and from cautious townies), and the mass reveal is of limited use if we end up with half the town revealed, and the scum getting a Night to discuss their reactions to the reveal.
Ummm… in other news, just as a friendly way to welcome JSex back to the ranks of the players:

Ban JSexton

That’s something to think about - the idea that there might be more than one faction at work.

NETA - I agree that a mass reveal would not work with the “plausible deniability” aspect of random day ends.

I don’t have any idea where to start.

But if we’re going to speculate, I’d say it’s entirely possible that Jr Mods may think they’re Town.

A regular scum group of trolls, hackers and jerks, and a second one of Chicago Reader staff? Jerry, Ed and Cecil only make three, unless this Mark Witt guy is somehow related to CL or the Reader. It seems more likely to me that they’d be PFKs rather than a true second scum group.

Or they could be Millers… townies that investigate as scum.

…Or regular scum, or regular townies… metagaming the setup is so fun, and so fruitless, innit?

They could be like insane cops. I’m not sure this line of thinking is useful, though, without additional information.

I’m not sure any of this is useful, at this point, except to see who’s talking, and maybe establish data points for later evaluation.
