As soon as I saw my role, I knew I had two options for how to attack it. One, play in such a way as to get people to vote for me in dribs and drabs naturally. This is extremely difficult to pull off. Either I act too scummy and I get bandwagoned or enough unique people vote for me that I might as well have gotten lynched. It also makes it really hard for people to look at my posting record, since I would be acting at least somewhat falsely.
Or I could do what I did, which is claim and throw myself on the mercy of the town. At the time this seemed like the better option since I wouldn’t be lying to everyone all over the place. In hindsight, I regret choosing that option since all it did was get people jumping all over me. I should have learned from Skrull Planet and kept my damn mouth shut.
As for why do it then, when I had already met my requirement for the Day? Waiting just seemed like a worse idea then coming out immediately. I was wrong of course, since if I had waited I wouldn’t have instantly been multiple people’s number 1 target and I would have had more options for defense. But that struck me as a worse play for Town overall, so I didn’t choose it.
Yes and no. It’s less of a spiteful act and more of a long term benefit sort of thing. There’s been a lot of discussion lately about how Town has become complacent and reliant on power roles. It cost them in Cecilvania, and may end up costing them in Skrull Planet. If my refusing to reveal more leads people to break out of their complaceny, then that’s a good thing for Town, not a bad thing. I’d be lying though if I said I wasn’t slightly pissed off that for the second game in a row I’m getting hounded for doing something that is to my mind a pro-town move.
Oh and I forgot to mention, none of that really applies to you Hero, since you’re new to our games you and therefore obviously can’t be infected with the complaceny others have been.
I think this is a idea worth considering but it seems to have such a large downside. The first being loss of knowledge. If he is town it would seem that not knowing his role and alignment would hurt the town more so based on the illustrious Og’s ruling that is what would happen. If he is scum or PFK then it would probably be revealed there by hurting those factions more.
What we are hoping for is a mod kill of scum, but if we think he is scum why not lynch. the second problem I see is giving him time to use his ability specifically two nights and three Days it would make sense that given the limited life time that he has admitted to that his power will be most useful in the first couple of days so why give him a chance to use it at all.
I think this is a pretty good point up until the last paragraph because the Diggit lynch is also starting to look pretty good and that is where I will transfer to if we decided to let Nanook live until Day 3.
It has been explained - but not by Diggt himself.
I still feel Hero is scum, but I agree with not lynching Nanook.
If Nanook is:
Scum - why would he make that claim - very risky and with what aim? (if not to GET a lot of votes - and then Town is playing his game)
Not Town nor Scum - he might be able to hurt Town (then again might hurt scum - if we don’t lynch they might NK - I’ll be okay with that)
You realize, of course, that this is going to make us pro-town guys who AREN’T piling on your ass more inclined to vote for you to spite your spite. Come on, man, spite is not only unbecoming but it makes the game less fun–get a claim out there, if you’re anything.
I would caution anyone new to the game against taking Nanook’s discussion of spite etc. as anything other than a null tell–we’ve had instances where people have got vehement on an issue at best tangentially related to the games, and those people have been both scum and town.
I’m tempted to make a vote for DiggitCamara solely to make it less likely that Nanook gets lynched.
Oh, and ok11? I am not going to be bullied into having a vote out if I’m not sure of who should get my vote. I do not believe in random voting once discussion has started as nicely as it has, and I don’t believe I have enough information right now to decide whether I’m more inclined to lynch Diggit or Nanook (who are tied at 6 each by my count) or whether I want to push NBC, leaving out the possibility of throwing my vote away somewhere else in the pool.
You are one of the people I respect as a good player Zeriel, so for you I will set aside my feelings and put a little more info out there. Those of you that are familiar with the offboard games will understand what I’m saying here. Those of you that aren’t, well, you’ll have to ask someone to explain it to you.
I want to be clear that I am not claiming anything. I’m just…mentioning things in context. In one of the offboard games, Blade Runner which no longer appears to be available, there was a role that was lynched on Day 1 I believe. He was a town aligned replicant with powers and restrictions. Someone else that played in it can explain it better than I I’m sure.
With that said, I will have nothing further to say on this topic.
While I’m undecided if we should test Nanook’s claim, I think those currently voting for him are rushing to lynch without properly thinking through the mechanics. And I’m certainly going to hold current voters accountable if Nanook turns out to be Town.
There’s no good reason to vote for him now. If you think he’s not Town, you can test his claim Tomorrow. If you think he’s Town, you shouldn’t be voting for him anyway.
And I will be using similar logic Tomorrow: anyone who votes for him then will be highly suspect. If you think he’s not Town, you should not vote for him Tomorrow, to test his claim). And likewise, if you think he’s Town, you still shouldn’t be voting for him, because you should be voting for scum.
Scum are more than happy to let town lynch town without their intervention.
Think about it: if (later on) someone’s confirmed as scum and they jumped on a lynching wagon to launch a kill of someone else, it’s easy to identify them. It’s actually better for scum to hold back. If scum gets lynched, it’s actually better for them to jump on the bandwagon (for later “reputation”).
Remember: scum only need one player at the end to win. They can afford to lose all but one of their team.
