Con: On the SDMB it is not possible to exercise complete spontaneity as it is with other MBs. Anything that is truly spontaneous (i.e. lacks any consideration for the ‘rules’) is quickly closed.

Pro: This is what keeps the SDMB the special place that it is. Sure - I’m a little disappointed when a rare moment of playfulness gets closed, but I know it’s what causes this place to be meaningful. I’d love to see avatars. I’d love to see the [img] code work. But both of these would cause this place to resemble the more typical MBs on the internet (which are entertaining, but not informative)

As much as it conflicts with my love of internet imagery I beg you to keep the SDMB free of it, keep it a haven from lolcats, do-not-want images, and so on.

Still…the Why? thread looked like it was just starting to get a direction to it.

I think some foax here don’t have a full appreciation of the surreal.

Please don’t confuse “surreal” with “weird” or “stupid.” Too many people do that. :wink: I think it’s important to give every strange thread the benefit of the doubt if people are having fun with it, but even in MPSIMS I think there has to be a limit on the pointlessness.
