SDMB Monthly Photo Competition - rolling discussion thread

On Chrome and Mac, and I can see it.

Also outside of the U.S., in case that’s relevant.

Chefguy beat me to it, and I don’t want to have two similar pictures, but I still want to share.
This is in the vicinity of Bishop, CA but NOT the Chalfant Petroglyph Site.

I can see the girl at the wall. I’m on my phone.

I can now see Chad_Sudan’s image, not sure why I couldn’t before.

mmm

I initially posted the photo using imgbb, but I did not create an account with them, and within a few hours, the photo disappeared. So I uploaded the photo to a different photo hosting site (flickr). Then I reached out to an SDMB mod, who graciously replaced the broken link in my post with the current one.

Hmm, I can’t see the picture I posted above. I could before.
I have an alternate site which I will use later.

The most memorable graffito I ever saw was written along a wall in a field by the M40 motorway, maybe 30 miles west of London. It read:

Why Do I Have To Do This Every Day. No More War. Give Peas A Chance

That was about 30 years ago and I’ve never found an image of it on-line. But wait, it gets stranger…

This appeared some time later and indeed it was one of the landmarks which cheered you as you made your way around the M25 (London orbital motorway, if you don’t already know).

“Peas” was reportedly the name of a London graffiti artist…

I can see it now. Dunno what changed.

OK, now I see my pic above w/ Chrome on my computer I couldn’t see it w/ Safari on my iPad.
Just in case, these should show up in either case:
The first one is one of the Chalfant Petroglyph sites.

I’ve got an entry I’ve been trying to post for the past couple days using imgbb, which is what I’ve been using for all my entries, but it will not display the preview. I’m following the usual instructions, I’m sure I’m doing it right, but no dice. It’s very frustrating - I can’t figure out what the issue is. Grrrrrrr.

What device are you posting from?

Mac laptop using Chrome browser, same as all my other previously posted photos. I’m grateful for any suggestions (except to use imgur).

It seems like sometimes Discourse takes a while to figure out how to display a picture. How about creating a test thread in ATMB and trying to post your picture there. If it doesn’t display it properly, come back to it sometime later to see if anything changes. You could also ask the rest of us to look at it to see if we notice anything wrong with the link.

Good suggestion. I posted it in the Test Thread in ATMB here and got the same result (at least for me). Can you see an image here in this post?

I see it if I click on it, but not automatically displayed. I don’t know why.
I use Flickr, which is free. Maybe you could try that?

Thanks. Do you know if you have to create a Flickr account or is it “just use it” like imgbb?

It’s been so long, I don’t remember, but I suspect it’s create an account.

OK thanks, I’ll check anyway. I don’t really want to create an account if I can avoid it. I’ll look around.

ETA: I tried postimages, which worked perfectly and required no account. Looks like that will be my new go-to.

I think I know what the problem is. The instructions say:

If you left-click on the image first before right-clicking it, it will expand it to a full-sized image. If you right-click on the full-sized image and copy that link, you’ll get a link to an image that Discourse won’t display. If you just right-click without first expanding the image, you’ll get a link to a smaller image that Discourse will display. I’ve made that mistake myself in the past.

Hmm, that’s interesting and weird, but not (I think) the problem I was having, because I did not left-click the image before right-clicking.

(Long boring story that doesn’t really matter anymore because I used postimages.com):
When I first posted the image to imgbb, it was a large file exported from RAW. When I opened the link to that file from a new tab, there was a button in the window that said “show full resolution.” I clicked that, and then tried to post to SMDB, and got the error for the first time. I thought perhaps that the file size was just too big, so I re-exported the image at lower quality/file size, and have been using that new, smaller file ever since. Since I started using that smaller version, I have not left-clicked at all, only right-clicked.

So I’m still baffled but happy to use postimages since it worked simply the first time without all this rigamarole
