You mean, as I’m furiously dodging and burning under the enlarger as the timer ticks away to get that perfect match between sky and the landscape, there’s an easier way?
I have to admit, I have a fair number of iPhone shots that just look amazing, and it’s often because that’s the camera we have with us when the moment strikes.
ETA: I should have realized that my silly joking around gives a perfect example of “nothing new under the sun,” since you may have a modified iPhone photo, but even my old-school black-and-white enlargements are tinkered with quite freely.
Yeah, that’s why I only “almost” feel that I cheated. I used completely standard iPhone features; but it sure simplifies the process compared to what it used to take in a darkroom!
@Galactus I was out and about around sunset last night and saw something very similar (but more orange), with contrails crisscrossing the sky and lit up by the setting sun. Unfortunately I was driving and was unable to get a picture.
As a guy who shoots only black-and-white film these days…
Gritty
This one is what you want to make of it. It could be a super grainy B&W photograph, or a photograph with a photojournalistic vibe, or even a photo involving beach sand.
Since we all judge by our votes, it’s up to everyone to decide what “gritty” means to them.
That’s about it. Put it on your favorite random site where you put photos and link to it here–being careful to avoid unknowingly sharing personal details or private photos.
But, I’m sure we’d all like to help out. If it’s too much of a hassle for a one-off thing I’m sure multiple people would be willing to host it for you. PM me if you wish.
I’ve been posting the photos on Bluesky, clicking on the image to open it, right-clicking for “open in a new tab”, then copying that URL to post here. Works every time.
