I didn’t want to overwhelm the contest with cat pictures, so I restrained from posting mine. Even though I’m sure that they are so cute that they’d win.
Of course, I might be a little biased.

Now I wish I had shown your restraint!
I think I’ve shown you guys all my good animal pictures. I’m hoping to take a new one for the competition, but if I don’t…well, I think all my pets are pretty cute!
Just a quick note for you and anyone else who is leery about posting pictures. If you go to imgur (the site I normally use) you can just click on “New Post” (button at the top left) and then there are several different simple ways you can upload a picture – no registration required, no hassle!
The thing to remember with imgur is that the link that appears in the URL bar is an “album” link, which will lead to a truncated picture if you post it, until the reader clicks on it. The better way to do it is to navigate to the actual JPEG (in Firefox, right-click and select “display image in new tab”). That new tab will then show a URL ending in “.jpeg”. Post that link.
I can’t find this rule but does the photo have to be taken that month? And is it okay to repost a photo I recently posted in the general photography thread? Apologies if this has been asked before but there are 164 posts here.
You can post any picture so long as you took it and you’re not breaking any laws. Don’t break the law, Fiendish!
ETA: I didn’t make the rules, so don’t blame or listen to me.
I can advise I did not break the law in taking the picture I am about to post. It was taken in November.
Many thanks!
I just love that one.
I don’t think it’s good enough to enter, but here is a friend I met walking down a path in Alaska.
Looking back on it, we were pretty stupid for how close we got to her.
I’ve seen videos of moose attacks. Yikes!
There’s an elk herd in Pennsylvania (in Elk County) where I’ve gone sightseeing with friends.
My buddy Gil wanted to get a picture of an elk cow with calf. He got out of the car and approached way to close. When the cow ran at him, he ran back to the car. George, the owner of the car, didn’t want his car damaged and drove off!! Luckily Gil caught up and the cow backed down.
I will try to remember this if I post again. Thanks!
Thanks, @wolfpup! It works the exact same way in Chrome.
Hey, my moose was in Anchorage as well.
Maybe same trail.
Maybe same moose.
mmm
Once again, I had a really hard time picking just one photo to enter in the contest. You know the scene in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles where Neil’s client can’t decide between two ad layouts? That’s me trying to select an entry for this contest.
I see some people are posting photos in this thread, but I think I’ll post the other ones I considered in the general photo thread.
Are you kidding? The plane MADE the pic. A-close-to-but-not-quite-surreal study of modern nature.
Haha! I was hoping the moose would raise her head and look our way at the right moment when the plane was overhead, but it was not to be. Yeah, I thought the whole airplane and wild moose juxtaposition was interesting, as well as the “Where is that?..look at the airline name” thing.
That trip to Alaska gave us many great photos of wildlife - there were a few of caribou in Denali that are so close you san see the bumps in their skin from the warbles, and Orca we got from the boat near Seward, that I considered for this contest. But, I went ahead with a pet photo instead!
Hi everyone, just a heads up that this month’s competition will close at 9pm GMT tonight (for comparative purposes, I’m posting this at about 12.45pm GMT).
moderating:
Editing someone’s photo without permission is like changing the contents in a quote box. It’s absolutely not allowed here. Don’t do it again.
(offering to edit someone’s photo and posting the result with their permission is okay, of course, so long as there’s proper attribution as to who did what.)
