SDMB Musical Lovers' Salon and Debating Society

I’ll look for TwoTrouts’ post Jan 31st on Little Shop of Horrors.

That’s not the one with Jack Nicholson, right? That was a short film?
This is the one with Rick Moranis?

I rented State Fair & then waited, what felt like forever, for the discussion to start. Then I missed it. :smack:

Correct. This is the musical remake of the (full-length) 1960 Roger Corman film with a very young Jack Nicholson.

Sorry you missed the State Fair thread – feel free to bump it if you’ve got anything to add. I still feel like Nashville got short shrift, also, if anyone wants to revisit that film.

Yes, I feel the State Fair thread to be sheer genius. Bow down to the high mind that wrote it. fnord

Here is TwoTrout’s Little Shop of Horrors thread. I’ll link but not read, since I haven’t watched it yet. :o (Neither of the two closest library branches had it, nor did my usual video store – I’ve got a copy on hold at the my default store and will swing by there on my way home, and watch it this evening.)

DeVena, if you’re still around, it’s your turn to pick. If not, Draelin, Lamia, hold yourselves in readiness…

Ok, I’m here, after many moons of limited computer time. I’ll happily pick… um, let me think about it overnight, and I’ll come up with it for tomorrow, if that’s ok.

It may not be my turn yet, but I hereby nominate Guys and Dolls, which was the first musical I can ever recall seeing. Or anything by Cole Porter.

Nice choice, Draelin – saw it a couple of weeks ago and liked it a lot more than I remembered.

It’s not your turn to pick, though – Eonwe promised a pick today sometime. Keep an eye on this thread.

Yes, had I read the posts before mine, I would have noticed before I hit “Submit”. sigh

Keep it on file.

Eonwe – are you ready to pick, or shall we go with Guys and Dolls and let you pick the next one?

Eonwe – you snooze, you lose. Guys and Dolls it is, with Draelin writing an OP on February 25th.

If you’d like to pick, you can do the movie after that.

twicks, stern taskmistress of the Musicals thread

In that case, disregard the e-mail.

No prob – I misunderstood the question anyway.

Eonwe, TwoTrouts, DeVena – if someone would like to pick the next film…

In the meantime, the Guys and Dolls discussion is underway.

bump for the new work week…

If it’s my turn, I’d like to haul Hello, Dolly! out for review.

Interesting choice! Michael Crawford before he was, ya know, Michael Crawford.

Sounds good to me – we’ll look for an OP on March 21st.

Eonwe, TwoTrouts – whichever of you is ready to jump in then with a pick, we’ll go with. I’m trying to go in order, but it’s like herding kittens with you guys!

And a noble job you’re doing.

But an imperfect one – I just realized I was offering TwoTrouts another pick, even though he went for the very popular Little Shop of Horrors. (Nope, he didn’t offer a bribe when we met on the Baltimore museum trip – but us Gauchos gotta stick together…)

Okay – Eonwe – we’ll be looking for your pick on March 21st – don’t make me come after you!

Hello, Dolly” is fine by me. I haven’t seen this one in decades!
