Got a chance to watch “Divine Madness” tonight once again. I know it is a concert movie, but I just love it. Am looking forward to watching “Gypsy” this weekend too at the bear retreat, on the big ole projection TV that is there. Am going to save “Neptune’s Daughter” for viewing on Monday. Apparently it must go back to the library Tuesday. Will be taking notes and waiting to discuss with all of you on the 15th.
Watched “Neptune’s Daughter” last night. It was so much fun! Will wait for the discussion and debating to commence.
Me! I want to join.
My library consortium has Neptune’s Daughter and it should be in this week. Woo!
The musical I’d like to see again is so obscure it never was even on imdb until recently. Not to worry, if it ever gets around to me, I won’t pick that one.
I’m so glad you liked it! I was having nightmares of everyone coming back and saying “you put us through hell to get hold of a copy of this?!?!?!”
I haven’t (re)watched it yet, because I know I’m going to be too antsy for the discussion to start once I do – I’ll watch next weekend and write my OP then, for posting on Wednesday.
So did I. Good choice, twickster.
jsgoddess which musical? (especially since you’re not going to pick it.)
A charming 1932 (pre-censor) musical called “One Hour With You.” It starred Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald. I saw it once, over ten years ago, on AMC. I tried to find a copy of it then and a few times since, but it is (or at least was) incredibly hard to find.
I watched “Neptune’s Daughter” last night. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this film before! I’m going to watch it again tonight.
::checks calendar impatiently::
Is it too soon to bump this thread?
My copy is ready to be picked up at the library! (Now all I have to do is find the time to get it and watch it.)
Though it isn’t as famous as, say, 42nd St., One Hour With You was an Academy Award Best Picture nominee and hardly what I’d call obscure to musical-lovers (and I’m positive that it’s been on the IMDB for several years at least), though it is admittedly difficult to track down and therefore unsuitable for this Society.
I couldn’t wait any longer – here is the Neptune’s Daughter thread.
supervenusfreak – are you ready to announce the next film?
Am I ever. Been dithering over it for the past week. Decided to go with one of my all time favorite movies, hands down. It is Victor/Victoria. Yes I do mean the 1982 film version, not the stage musical. But then again I will probably watch both. Such an amazing lavish production. Robert Preston, Julie Andrews, and Henry Mancini together? Sheer heaven!
So get your copy now kids and get ready for a treat. Will check back in here in a couple of weeks for discussion and all.
Oh good. I’ve been trying to decide if my twelve year old daughter would like to see Victor/Victoria…now we have to watch it!
Found a nice link with a cast list and plot synopsis here . Am newish to doing all of this so here’s hoping it works.
. I suggest that those with the DVD turn on the cast commentary for one viewing. Lots of insider info from Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards.
An excellent choice, svf! One of my favorites!
Love it here too. Just recently watched the DVD of the stage version from 1995. Liked it a lil bit. Julie Andrews tried so very hard to make it a big success. The additional musical numbers were pretty much forgettable though. It was really great to see and hear Julie sing live. Le Jazz Hot was terrific of course. Michael Nouri has a terrific singing voice too. But I think Tony Roberts was miscast as Toddy. He played him way too fey for my taste.
I loved the movie when I saw it years ago… except that I didnt like James Garner’s character. I think he felt intrusive to me. I will rent it again this week and see if my feeling has changed any.
Thanks SVF for giving me a justification to see it again!
Always welcome! I do like the casting of James Garner in this movie. I think he adds the right touch of masculinity and tenderness to a difficult role.
Club Secretary here, letting all know I have not vanished from the face of the Earth. I’ve been buried under half-unpacked boxes for a few weeks.

BTW, are we staying with a three-week schedule on this? That would make the date for svf’s OP Wednesday, August 4th. (Smack dab in the middle of my vacation … hm, come back from Cape May for a day to post? nah, I don’t think so… )
Was actually thinking of a 2 week period, so that would take us to July 28 to start a thread. Is that ok with everyone? Am flexible on this.
