SDMB Musical Lovers' Salon and Debating Society

Two weeks sounds fine – unlike some people, you chose a movie that’s actually pretty available. (Yup, I’ve got a copy, too.)

And of course, it’s not like people can’t chime in later on the threads if they don’t get around to seeing the movies until somewhat later.

BTW – the guy who played the detective/waiter in the Broadway production, Adam Heller, is the brother of a friend of mine.

So Maureen, will you be ready to select the next movie by next Wednesday? Hope so.

Quick note folks. I just got finished watching “Elaine Stritch At Liberty”. I heartily recommend it to anyone here. She is just amazing! I wish that I would have caught the show live when it was touring.

Maureen – are you ready to annouce the next film yet?

Yup.

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, as previously mentioned, the film I choose is Daddy Long Legs with Fred Astaire and Leslie Caron. One of my personal favorites.

Astaire performs “Something’s Gotta Give,” and Caron dances beautifully. sigh Love this movie.

does a very Gallic fingertip-kissing gesture of appreciation (in honor of Mlle. Caron)

An outstanding choice, Maureen! Astaire is a deity to me – and yay! finally a musical with some serious dancing!

This isn’t quite as common as Victor/Victoria, but also isn’t as obscure as Neptune’s Daughter, so how’s Wednesday the 18th for Miss Maureen to open the discussion?

I will be home from vacation on the 9th, so the 18th is actually perfect. Gives me time to settle back in.

Hey, everyone, just a reminder; Daddy Long Legs viewing before next Wednesday.

Thread for Daddy Long Legs started here

ThatDuckIsEvil – are you ready to announce the next film?

How about a link that works. :smack:

Hello everyone. Sorry I’m a little bit behind. But on we go!!!

The film I have picked is “Kiss Me Kate” Not too mainstream, not too obscure, and it’s got my favorite musical staple, Ann Miller.
Enjoy! We’ll meet back in a few weeks? Sept. 8 will it be?
-Duck

Hooray! Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson, Bob Fosse, Cole Porter + Miller, of course.

Yay indeed! If Ruby Keeler is all about slow, awkward tapping, Ann Miller is her polar opposite. And Fosse. And Cole Porter. A wonderful choice!

I have always had totally mixed feelings about that one (Fosse! Miller! (yay!) The plot (boo)) - it’ll be good to see it again.

Bless you Duck! This is one of Jayjay’s favorite movies. Mine too! We can cuddle and watch and maybe even drag him into the discussion.

Psst! ThatDuckIsEvil! I watched Kiss Me Kate last night – where’s the thread?

Pssssssst! cervaise! You’re up next – ready to pick?

Ok, I’ve posted the discussion in CS. But I can’t link for, um, doo-doo. Can someone help me out? It’s there, titled = September Discussion, “Kiss Me Kate”

cervaise is next!

Link.

And cervaise – a reminder that you’re up. I would have emailed you, but you’ve got an unlisted email address. Don’t make us go to the next person…

I’m getting ready to declare cervaise AWOL. Amarinth, you’re up next after him (her?) – are you ready to pick?
