SDMB pages loading slow on my phone - what can I do?

I have an Android phone, using Chrome as my browser. I have the SDMB set to use the SultanTheme display, although I don’t think it matters as it also seems to be loading slowly with the normal SDMB display as well. (It’s just smaller and more unreadable on the phone with the regular format.)

When I load a page, the Straight Dope banner and menu buttons load right up, then it takes about another 20-30 seconds for the rest of the page to load. It doesn’t matter if I’m on the main page, going to a forum, or trying to open a specific thread. It even happens if I go back to the previous page, which I would think would be cached, but it just reloads it like it’s the first time hitting that page.

I’ve been trying to use the Chrome browser more lately instead of Tapatalk on the phone, which is driving me crazy with the ads and the always logging me out and the constant popups urging me to get the VIP version. But if I have to sit there and wait half a minute for every page to load in Chrome, I may just suck it up and go back to Tapatalk.

Does anyone else have this problem on their phone? Should I try a different browser? I’ve tried clearing the cache, shutting down and restarting the phone, but nothing seems to help.

Could be:

[li]The browser[/li][li]The phone[/li][li]The network connection[/li][li]Any combination of the above, or something else entirely[/li][/ul]

I’m guessing not network connection, since I’m on the same wifi connection at home as the family laptop, and I have no problem with page loads on the laptop. Also it seems to just be SDMB, other websites load just fine on the phone.

One other thing that’s kind of interesting. Sometimes after an especially long delay, right as the page finishes loading I’ll get a “Chrome is not responding” message pop up, with choices to close app, wait, or provide feedback. If I hit “wait” then the page displays ok.

I tried viewing the site on an Android with Chrome and was so beset with ads and pop ups, that I never tried again. Is it perhaps trying to load something, and your anti-ad app is causing a conflict?

Get a better phone, better phone plan, better wifi or reorient yourself so you have a better mobile signal.

I’m a paid member so I shouldn’t be seeing any ads anyway.

It seems to be a little better today but for most of the week it’s been really sluggish and unresponsive. One interesting thing I noticed though… when it paused on page load, if I hit the “home” key to go back to the “desktop” (or whatever you call it on a phone) then immediately opened Chrome again, the page was loaded. So that quickly became my new shortcut to get the page to load faster.
