SDMB RPG First Adventure: Panic in Genoa!

<delete>

Longstrider has a range of “personal” and a target of “you.” You can’t cast it on anyone else.

OK fine: can I catch up to her?

How well could my bird follow her when the glow wears off? See grass rustling, etc.

Giacomo switches his crossbow for his sap and rushes to where The Brute has pinned Umberto. If he can this round, he will hit Umberto for non-lethal damage. If not he will do so next round. (I’m assuming the sorceress is out of crossbow range. If not I will loose a quarrel at her instead.)

Your speed with the spell would be 40 feet per round, and a horse runs at 50. You could keep her in sight for a while, maybe get another spell off, but you couldn’t run her down on foot when she’s mounted. Right now, she’s on horseback, and while she’s invisible, her horse is easily seen.

Your falcon can fly 80 feet per round, and can easily keep up. Whether or not she could spot an invisible person on foot would require a Perception roll, but birds of prey have excellent eyesight and corresponding bonuses to Perception in good weather and sunlight.

You can absolutely try to get a shot off at the escaping sorceress in the next round. She’s moving quickly out of range, but you’ll get one shot at least.

OK, cool. Forget the sap then, let me try a shot.

I will send a sling bullet her way as well-hope to knock her out of the saddle…

 • If I can charge, grow big and use both my large speed + large reach to hit her horse before she can get too far away, I’ll do that in a rage. Gloves off, I need that horse out of commission.
 • else I’m… not sure, actually :). If she’s still in range of a thrown axe, then I’ll rage one round, move+draw then throw at the horse (putting Ingrid in my left hand). If not, I’ll spring towards our own horses, wherever they’re stashed, and try to keep in hot pursuit. Even though I can’t ride for crap

UNHORSE THE WITCH, YOU LAGGARDS ! DON’T LET HER GET AWAY ! No, not you, Brute, you keep your fist straight down that trollkin’s throat, I don’t want him to get one word edgewise !

Joseph coughs… charismatically.

Having brought Umberto down, I’m going to try to get him in a chokehold. CMB check to give him the Pinned condition, +5 to the check if he tries to break the grapple, but fails. If that works, I’ll start to choke him out. CMB check (+5 etc.) every round to deal my unarmed damage to him. Nonlethal, for now.

Taye will cast Magic Missile. One bolt at the Faerie Fire in the saddle area and one bolt at the horse’s forelegs. Either unhorse the sorc or cripple the horse. Or if I’m very lucky, both.

Oya, forgive me, the horse is an innocent, I know but I cannot allow the woman to escape!”

Apologies to Malacandra for not waiting, but I’d like to resolve this before the weekend.

Zachary: 21
Solsken: 21
Giacomo: 17
Maria Marioni: 16
Taye: 15
Harald: 13
Aji: 7
Joseph: 6
Umberto Marioni: 2

Seeing the sorceress bolt out of range and his friend the Brute trying to pin Marioni to the ground, Zachary begins digging through his pack for rope to tie up the Genoese nobleman.

Solsken drops from his low tree branch and whips a slingstone toward the escaping sorceress, but it goes wide left.

Giacomo lines up a shot at the Maria Marioni’s horse and it connects, but has the bad fortune to strike the saddle, where it sticks up as though taunting him. Had your roll been one higher, it’d be a hit.

The sorceress recovers her senses and kicks her horse’s flanks harder to gain speed. She’s nearly out of range of even the best archers.

Taye casts bolts of energy at both Maria and her horse. The first nails Maria directly, but it doesn’t seem to bother her. The second catches her horse in the fetlock, and its legs tangle and it goes down in a cloud of dust. That’s a natural 1 on an Acrobatics check to not fall down. Maria is thrown clear and lands lightly on her feet; she’s harder to see, even with the Faerie Fire, since she’s so low to the ground now.

Harald, seeing Maria thrown from her horse, takes a strong grip on his axe and charges full-tilt toward the ghostly flames that he can still see. He’s about eighty yards away from her, and with one hell of a head of steam built up.

Umberto Marioni is clearly overmatched in trying to wrestle the Malay Brute. Aji easily slips his left arm around the Genoese’s throat and begin to apply expert pressure to his opponent’s windpipe.

Joseph drops to the ground and scrubs hard at his face with some of the long grasses growing by the side of the road. He’s still pretty uncomfortable, but he is at least capable of acting helpfully now.

Umberto struggles against Aji, throwing elbows expertly into his opponent’s short ribs, but Aji knows how to roll with a blow and doesn’t let up on the pressure.

I cast Longstrider on myself and join my buddy Harald in the chase after the sorceress…

Joseph sits up, squints into the distance, and comes to the conclusion that there’s literally nothing he can do to improve situation, so he just watches as Aji throttles Umberto, ready to step in and help if need be.

I’m fine with immobilising those who are out of the fight - it’s that or throw bombs at things or go feral, and at the moment neither option seems to be needed. I don’t have anything much to offer in a chase or a long-range missile duel.

Now I take out my sap, to whack Umberto for non-lethal damage if he hasn’t passed out. If he does pass out I will tie him up.

After Taye climbs from the tree he casts True Strike (+20 insight bonus, not affected by concealed target) on himself then readies his crossbow while running to get within range of the sorceress. Firing the crossbow the moment I’m in range.

Oya be blessed, we have a chance yet to take her!”

All right ! That’s what I like to see ! Harald will rage and try to thump the witch with the handle of his axe (so, taking the -4 to hit to deal subdual damage), but on the way I’ll also try to scare off the horse if possible, hooting and hollering at it.

Good show, Moor ! Very good show ! AVAST, DEVILBEAST, I’M COMING FOR YOU ! RUN ALONG IF YOU KNOW WHAT’S GOOD FOR YOU !

Oh, and if I’m out of charging range of the witch, I’ll move and fling a throwing axe at the horse instead, that should send it packing.
